1999 Chevrolet Camaro Reviews, Pricing & Specs
Write a review
After a major revamping in 1998, the Camaro saw few changes in the 1999 model. It retains its same powerful motor, with an EPA sticker that is constantly accused of containing misleading data (i.e. beware of enticing gas estimates....you won't reach those numbers).
The pony car sits on excellent standard Goodyear tires. Drivers and passengers alike can get good views of the wheels when stooping to get in the car. The Camaro continues to be low to the ground, causing excessive stooping. Once in the cabin, the lowness contributes to an exciting ride expected from an American classic.

Sleek ride. Amazing power from the factory. Always get compliments. It is a sports car so there isn't much cargo space and only seats 4 people including The driver. It is the corvette of those who can't afford an actual vette.Aug 05, 2014

I've loved this car since the moment I got in it. It handles well, has been really reliable, and has been a ton of fun. My dad bought me this out of sentimental value (he got a Camaro as his first car), and passed on the sentiment to me. I would recommend this car to anyone.May 06, 2013

For it having 296,000 Miles one hell of a car... My dad owns it now. It was fast and handled so damn sweet. The main thing was getting it to hook up and launch of the line for a fast pass.Jan 30, 2012

Dream car- everything anticipated it to be- fun for a sports car as well

American built so not too expensive- nothing outrageous other than

Totaled this car when someone pulled out if front of me and unable to
stop on a slick road in Dec. Both air bags went off. A lot of front end
damage so it was totaled. Was a fun car. Nov 21, 2011

Excellent entry level sports car. Responsive handling, aggressive engine performance, and the Flowmaster exhaust makes her sing. Purchased mine from a local dealership 3 years ago, and have only kept up routine maintenance since. Fun to drive, don't think I could have picked a better car!Oct 27, 2011

I love this car because I built it with my own two hands. It's got a rebuilt LS1 with a hotcam in it, longtubes, loudmouth exhaust, lid....pretty much all the essentials for an LS1! It's been a fun car to drive.Jul 04, 2010

She handles like a dream. The interior kind of falls apart, but I don't really mind. The interior and the exterior both look great. It's very fun to drive. She get's about 27 miles to the gallon when i drive her good.Jan 18, 2010

The 3.8 V6 packs a nice punch
It looks great, cheap to maintain and very solid.
T-tops tend to leak slightly
In the summer, with the tops off, nothing compares to it :)
Makes for a spirited winter driving experience :PNov 11, 2009

The quality of my camaro is amazing, currently it has almost 160k miles on it and it hasn given me any problems (but thats what you get with a chevy) it might have 3.8, 6 cyl but it has power, the handling is great, and has no problems comming to a stop. I love the way the camaro were designed both the interior and exterior look great, not so much room in the back, but if you buy one of these your shouldnt care too much about room. This car is alot of fun to drive and i would definatly buy another and suggest that you get one youself!Oct 17, 2009

looks sexy as has been lowered with 19" rims, goes like hell even around corners and stops on a sixpence. it is a tad thirsty returning average of 17mpg. never had anything go wrong with it(touch wood) very reliable:))Oct 07, 2009

This was a great car for what it was designed to do and it won many races back in the day. I had it mildly modded with upgraded cold air induction, SLP Loudmouth exhaust, 17" SS wheels, and upgraded brakes. This car sounded mean and had much more than the factory published 305 HP and 325lb or torque.Aug 24, 2009

It runs amazing and rides great! You definitely dont have to worry about any little mustangs or ricers catching you. The body is beautiful and the color is easy to keep clean. My wheels are chrome c6 wheels and I have nitto extreme performance tires. It has a 3.73 gear ratio and a custom tune. Jul 10, 2009

I love this car, even though I'm going to sell it. Performance leaves a little to be desired. My camaro is stock. I hear you can improve the 3.8 V6 pretty easily, but I've never really had the money. The passenger window is really slow to roll up and down, I think it might be on its last legs again. Great looking car, excellent paint, leather interior (seats arn't terribly comfortable, but they are fine for a few hours) Never had any problems mechanically. MAF sensor went bad, and window went bad, both where cheap to fix however. Overall I love this car. Love RWD, except in snow. Love the looks I get while driving it. I will really miss it when its gone.Feb 11, 2009

1/4 mile - 13.8@101 stock
Hopefully mid-low 13s with full intake and exhaust
Around 15mpgs city
Not the fastest thing out there but not the slowest either
Be responsible when racing, wear them seat belts and avoid street racing, at the track is where its at.

Performance is good, great breaking and handling, ok acceleration. (v-6) Appearance is awesome... obviously. Fun factor is through the roof... BUT this car is in the shop every 2-3 weeks. It gets horrible gas mileage. I call it the beautiful turd, because it's great to look at, fun to drive (when it's working) but it's a piece of dung. Only get one if you're a mechanic. Sep 11, 2008

It's a Camaro. I mean, what more can I say ;). Seriously, it has a V6, that feels like a V8, that gets nearly 30 MPG on the highway. It has a KILLER sound system, that will literally shake the windows in the houses you go by (not that I'd ever have the sound that loud, of course, LOL), and it's a t-top model, so you can have an almost convertible on a pretty day, and a hardtop coupe on rainy ones. I seriously doubt I'd trade it for anything, because it is perfect for the commuting college student. Oh, did I mention that it is super reliable. Aug 21, 2008

Great car, especially in England where there are very few around. Not bad economy for such a large engine either (5.7/350). Insurance is cheap, half the price over my old MR2 Turbo. Fun to drive, although not as good on the corners as others. Although you must get an after market exhaust to get the true V8 soundAug 11, 2008

The accelleration is great, not as good as a v8, but close, drives straight as an arrow, needed new shocks, and sparkplugs, regularl maintenance, Orange with white stripes, hopefully gonna change that. Great on gas, thank god, and yes very fun to drive, awesome on corners, dont need to brake much at all.Aug 06, 2008

Current car is a 99 SS Camaro with the LS1 V8 engine backed by a 6 speed transmission with B&M shifter. Performance wise it has 4.10 gears, long tube headers, SLP air box lid, true dual exhaust, all tuned by HP Tuners to acheive 333rwhp. Pewter in color with 17" ZR1 wheels wrapped in Nitto tires and also has the T-top option.Aug 05, 2008

Love the looks, power and accessories this car has. T-Tops so u have the air like convertible, but the body stiffness of a coupe! love it!
Put her on the dyno this year and she did 335 HP to the rear wheels, thats almost 400 HP at the motor. 342 ft/lbs of torque too!Jul 20, 2008

This is my beater car to save my Impala from winter and parking lots. The Steering has a quick ratio and a nice heavy feel. Yet grip is terrible with way too much understeer. Some of this is due to the crappy tires I bought it with (Situmoto, more like cheap death wish) so the BF Goodrichs or Bridgestones should solve some of the problem, and other mods are on the way. It very slow in a straight line too, but at least I have been able to get 28+ mpg if I try for mileage.Jul 17, 2008

I absolutely love this car, Fully tuned skylines aren't
fair matches with this thing. With some very simple
cheap engine mods, boosting the car to over 400
horse, it is almost unbeatable, and with a
supercharger... well I won't go there.
I think the car could use a body kit, but other than
that, a custom painted SS hood looks great no
matter how you paint it.
Gets 35mpg on highway, better than ford fusion
(economy car)
Could lay rubber forever... bigger tires are needed
if you want some good traction, but even then,
there's plenty of power to break 'em loose.Jun 26, 2008

The 1999 Camaro that I own has seen better days. Not because it has been treated horribly, but because the build quality is in my eyes substandard. Trim pieces molded in plastic are cracking and breaking, the leather is cracking, and the paint is cracking. The car is cracking all over. Not to say that the drivetrain is hearty and loves being pushed, but performance is slightly above standard for its generation. With a basic FlowMaster Exhaust system, I can still beat brand new V-6 Mustangs, quite impressive. That is in a straight line. On a track, I don't know how safe I would feel with the amount of body roll I experience in my Camaro to take it around a track going anything over 40mph. Jun 24, 2008

A white trash dream car. This cars weakness is its handling and build quality. The powertrain
is godlike. There is power in every gear at every rpm. It also has a ton of body roll and when
you close the door it sounds like an empty beer can is rattling around inside it.Apr 29, 2008

For being a V6 it had pretty good performance. I love the way the car looks. Only major problem I've had is misfires, but that's partly due to the fact that the owner before me didn't take very good care of the car. Other little things are it's kind of hard to get into if you are tall, the back seats are basically useless, and very limited trunk space. But then again usually that goes with all sports cars.Apr 27, 2008

Lots of power with the LS1 mated to the 6 speed berg werner transmission. Awesome summer/weekend/nice day car. Not too good in rain and I never drove it in snow and nobody should. Apr 26, 2008

Awesome power for little money, but mods will put you in the hole. If you do not know how to drive a RWD this is possibly a loaded weapon. Mar 29, 2008

I chose my Camaro SS because I don't see tat many on the road, and I've never seen another silver one. I only drive my car about once a week in the summer time to keep the miles extremely low. I've had it going on two years and put about 9,000 miles on it. I love that it can take on cars that cost 5X as much, and how good (loud) it sounds at about 73mph.Jan 26, 2008

I used to be a non stop third gen die hard.... then I bought my 99 z-28 with t he sport appearance package in a six speed. I have had several other camaros including a 500 horse 73 type LT. None has been more fun, or had better handling. This car is amazing. At first I wanted to build a 70, but due to lack of time for the project, I decided to geta newer one, at first looking for 96-97 lt1 ss car. I found my 99, and for the price I couldnt pass it up. All I can say is buy on eof these cars with the LS1. You will not regret it. More power in the hole shot, and then the ability on the highway is just intense. 110 MPH and the car throws you back in the seat and just begs for more throttle. And give it you must. Jan 27, 2007
