All-new for 1998, the Volkswagen Passat shared a platform with the Audi A4, and in fact borrowed a number of other elements from its higher-end cousin, which also is owned by VW. Slightly larger (by about four inches) than its predecessor, the new Passat was available in two trim packages, the GLS and the GLX.
The base GLS sedan came with two engine options -- a 1.8-liter, 150-hp 4-cylinder and a 2.8-liter V6 that generated 190 hp. (Both engines were borrowed from Audi.) The top-of-the-line GLX sedan also came with the 2.8-liter V6, while a Passat wagon was available only with the 4-cylinder engine. A five-speed manual transmission was standard, while optional equipment included a four-speed automatic transmission with the Tiptronic feature, which enabled drivers to manually shift, depending on conditions.
The list of standard features for the 1998 Passat was fairly extensive, and included front and side airbags, air conditioning, power windows, power brakes, power door locks, daytime running lights, cruise control, a trip computer, a keyless entry system, an anti-theft alarm system, anti-lock brakes, and an eight-speaker AM/FM/cassette audio system. The GLX package added leather seats and a sunroof, among other features.
Generally, drivers appreciated the Passat's handling, styling, spaciousness, and comfort, though many pointed out that their cars required frequent and expensive repairs.
Tried starting my car and it would not turn over ignition like me coming on and still would not turn over try to compression start my car and that field also another lost right now so any help would be very appreciated thanks
Headlights, brake, turn signal, backup lights okay. Tail lights side lights are not working when headlights are turned on
Was doing work on the sunroof took the headliner out but it’s still in the open position but when I put it back on and I think the #79 relay for the sunroof/“power windows and doors” failed and somehow my actuator in my trunk latch started to move back and forth in a stuck motion and won’t stop unless I smash it shut or disconnect the wire from it but If I go to start the car the truck latch opens and doesn’t let me start..I think it’s something to do with my anti theft and the fact that my door latches don’t work why my key to enable the alarm but I can unlock them but I can use my key to enable and disable the alarm from the trunk but it won’t right now cause it is moving back and forth and doesn’t disable. I also pulled out the #214 relay cause at first that one felt like it was clicking but it looked like it needed to be replaced also. Any help?
I have a 98 vw passat 1.8t that won't start when I turn the key it cranks and splutters but doesn't start I've replaced the crank shaft position sensor and the cam shaft position sensor I've tried jumping it and pop starting it with no luck no codes are thrown
My oil filter housing is leaking really bad.
