I love this truck. It’s clean, efficient, has plenty of power(v-6 ), and not bad gas mileage

Good Little Truck — I bought the truck with 31,000 miles on it and its ran great for 5,000 miles so far. The 4.3 will suprise you sometimes with its power and the 4 speed auto connected to it gets the job done, but doesnt have enough speeds to use the 4.3s power to full potential. Only problem has been axle shafts especially the rubber boots as they seem to get shredded with any kind of build up of snow and ice up underneath the truck.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Its a Chevy....The 4.3 is a snotty little motor, real torquey. 4x4 works great. Gets suprisingly good gas mileage.  Starts great in -30

Cons: Its an automatic.  A little cramped inside, but thats expected.  Gets a little loud inside. Build quality is typical of mid to late 90s.

The truck suprisingly well towing a trailer. I turned up the torsion bars to level off the ride height and caused the truck to start destroying the boots on the front axle shafts and in one case managed to pop the left side out of the carrier. Besides that i didnt have many problems. 4.3 v6 is a great motor. 4 speed auto didnt really have enough gears to use the power very good but was very tough and reliable, one of the better auto transmissions ever made in my opinion. As far as off road ability, its no jeep wrangler but it does its job. id recommend a small lift with a regular 4x4 model or try to find a ZR2 model. Build quality is what youd expect in the middle to late 90s. Overall, I think it was a good truck. Recommend to anyone whos single or looking for a solid work truck. Not a good fit for a family as the regular cab and extended cab interior space in tiny.

Power Ranked 1989 Jeep Wrangler worse.
"The 5 speed manual uses the 4.2 I6 power very well on the jeep. The 4 speed auto on the s10 just doesnt have enough gears to use the 4.3 v6 power efficiently."
Handling Ranked 1989 Jeep Wrangler worse.
"Do i really gotta answer this? S10 has independent front suspension (kinda), end of story."
Looks/Style Ranked 1989 Jeep Wrangler better.
"Neither looks bad, but the s10 just cant compete with a lifted jeep on 33s."
Front Seats Ranked 1989 Jeep Wrangler worse.
"The s10s seats hugged and formed to my body better and were more adjustable. The cloth material in the s10 was very pleasant to the touch and certainly better than the jeeps."
Back Seats Ranked 1989 Jeep Wrangler better.
"Basically nonexistent in the s10 so had to give it to the jeep. Neither vehicle is one you would want to buy if youre looking for rear seat comfort and space."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 1989 Jeep Wrangler worse.
"S10 has a bed, jeep doesnt."
Family Car Ranked 1989 Jeep Wrangler better.
"Gave this to the jeep because it actually has a real back seat. Neither is well suited for a family with more than 1 child."
Value Ranked 1989 Jeep Wrangler worse.
"Jeeps hold their value ridiculously well even if theyve rotted into the ground. Good for resale but bad for getting a cheap deal on one in nice shape, risky paying less than $4,000 for one. The jeep is the cooler of the two but the S10 is more reliable and better on gas and repair costs are hilariously cheap. I hit a tree going about 35 with mine and it only cost $200 to replace the front bumper, lower valence, grille, all lights in front left, headlight bezels and a radiator support. Wasnt even worth using the insurance. A positive on both vehicles is you can find any part youd ever need for them very easily."
Would Buy Ranked 1989 Jeep Wrangler better.
"I love the off road capability and the cool factor of the jeep. Basically any vehicle with a manual trans is gonna win over one with an auto for me. You really have to own a jeep to understand why it wins over the s10. As they say, its a jeep thing."

I Love The Look Of The Zr2. The 4.3 - 4l60e Power Train Combination Is One Of The Best. — The rugged off road look originally caught my eye. I knew from other peoples experience that one could get many trouble free miles out of the 4.3 V6. After owning this truck for 15 years it is like an old trusty friend.

Pros: Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

Cons: The seat back adjuster handles broke twice under warranty.

I Saved It From The Scrapyard. — 1998 S10 SS Quick little truck. Problematic. Mine has 260,000 miles on it and it still goes. Had to replace MANY parts though. Factory SS package. with a 2"/3" drop kit. Minnesota truck so you know it's starting to rust out from the bottom up. Trying to rebuild it to its factory appearance.

Pros: Snappy 200hp V6

Cons: GM crap
