98 chevy van will not turn off
I replaced the ignition lock on my 98 chevy van after someone tried to steal it. Now the all the van does is try to start itself over and over. The car will not start. What is wrong?

Chevrolet introduced a new transmission, new paint colors, an improved security system, and composite headlights on its 1998 Astro models. The theft deterrent system prevented the van from starting if the correct key was not used. The optional "Dutch" rear doors were popular among owners; split-panel doors sat below a liftgate window. Bucket seats and a lighted entry system were standard on the 1998 Chevy Astro vans.
1998 Chevy Astro owners tend to keep the vehicles for many years and rely on it for hauling and family trips. However, many owners say the 1998 Astros have too little legroom, and numerous mechanical and maintenance problems: rear axle after 130K miles, window controls, fuel pump. Some say the 1998 Astro has poor visibility out the back and cite poor safety ratings in crash tests. One owner said it "eats brakes."

I use to live and go to work in a 1970 Volkwagon bus which was good on gas but lacked power. The Astro van has more power when driving up hills and can carry more things. I don't have to worry about pushing the van up the hill anymore. :)Sep 13, 2011

This van is fun to drive! Perfect for families! It has a great sound system, dual exhaust, great AC, new tires, and new brakes. It is a big, bad, red beast!! Definitely an attention grabber! Do not pass this up!!Mar 31, 2011

Good for alot of things. Got some power good on gas for the size. Good on horsepower. Can haul alot of stuff. Good for camping and going places. Great for taking your friends places. One word that best describes it its a Astro!Dec 20, 2009

I have owned 3 of these van's and I love them I am sad that Chevy no longer makes them. they are good on gas, lots of room. it seats up to 8 and still have cargo room. the whole family can load up and go look at Christmas lights or I can pull my jet ski to the lakeAug 10, 2009

98 Chevy in PURE flat military-block CAMO. Beer tap pulls for the recline feature on the 2 front captains chairs. Dual arm-rests. Front passenger seat is moved 12'' back to allow rear access thru passenger door. Waiting for a v8. Mo power Mo fun.

I just purchased this Van and drove it from Colorado to NYC & back it was a dream. 117k on it now, probably time for plugs amd spark plug cables, yes? Runs pretty smooth, but seems to miss a tiny bit when idling. Don't think the compression is uneven -may smooth out when s clean the sticky throttle body. Changed from dealer oil to Mobil1 high milage 10w-30 with 1/2 quart of Lucas Synthetic Oil Conditioner (used this combo on my diesel for years & really get better fuel milage). Want this van to last 300-400K like some I've read about.Oct 31, 2007

1998 astro van has to be jump started after 2 days of not using
i have a 1998 chevy astro van in the last 2 years we have replaced the battery had the alternator checked had fuses removed from radio side lights dome lights and several other things the van can sit for 2 days and when we go to crank battery will be dead and will have to be jumped for just a second and then it cranks what is wrong
