1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD Review
Zress says:
Ive always loved everything Jeep. Hardy, no fuss, fun and hard working. However, I had quite a few mechanical issues with the engine which ended up making me sell it off after the 5th time in the shop. It rode like a dream for such a big high car. I was pregnant and driving this car up until my son was born and it was exceedingly comfortable. Its very spacious and I loved how it looked.

Very Quiet, Picks Up Speed Faster Than Other Suvs. — smooth vehicle makes you feel safe when driving due to its height and breaking power. ABS brakes make the stopping distance shorter than older cars. Doesn't waste as much gas as expected with an average of 20 miles per gallon.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: The A/C in the summer time, the comfort of the ride and the alignment make this car stand out from many cars.

Cons: like new, minor scratches, regular wear on the gloss on the roof.

I Really Liked This Jeep — I would not want a 4.0 Cherokee they just don't have the power or economy that the 5.2 does. Plus it has great pulling power. My limited was nice were I wasn't embarrassed to drive it to a nice event as I would have been in a regular Cherokee.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: 5.2 is a great engine

Cons: body roll thru curves

Good Truck — What didn't i like aside from the bald tires and it would leak fluids all the time but I guess it's a jeep thing because it never went low on fluids. Loved the truck till the transmission started slipping. Then traded it for my 03 grand cherokee.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Best vehicle all around.

Cons: none

Uses Lots Of Little Crap — this is actually my wife's ride. it has the 4.0, auto, and even with the lift and tires rides smooth as butter. in town it gets about 15, but goin 70 it gets around 22, so who can complain. all in all, its fun.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: fun ride

Cons: electrical gremlins.

Reliable Vehicle — Overall, it's been a great vehicle. I bought it when it was 3 years old and only had 25,000 miles on it. I've had very minimal repairs over the years. Just goes through brakes and tires periodically. But then just this past month, the engine blew a rod and I had to put in a used engine. Seems to be running fine now.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: Does everything I've needed it to do.

Cons: Not many, other than with it being over 15 years old now, it shows some wear now and doesn't look like new, but still in very good shape.

Link — The SUV comes with a 5.2L V8 that has around 220hp from the factory. The full time all wheel drive works wonders in the snow. The braking is average for and SUV and its handling is about the same. The body is more square than rounded so its visual appeal is limited. The maintenance is top of the line. The SUV has just over 280,000 miles on it and the only major problem was the transmission that went at around 150,000. Other than that all it has required is general up keep and a fuel pump. The gas mileage for a V8 is better than i could have ever hoped for. Around town it averages about 18mpg and on the highway it averages 22mpg. The interior is fully loaded and suited for long rides.

Pros: The power and room

Cons: Limited handling due to the fact it is an SUV which has a high roll over rating

Great Jeep With Tons Of Power — over all i would rate this jeep four out of five stars. Looks great is outfitted with the powerful 318, 8cyl. Hwy 21mpg at approx 70 mph. Has a nice looking interior, which is comfortable aswell. All controls are easily accessible and this vehicle is a pleasure to drive. If there was one thing I would pick on the negative side is that this 97 jeep is packed full of eclectronics which tend to be on the expensive side to fix to repair so if your the handy man type this will help out a great deal.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: This jeep has the awesome look, very sporty with style. has the AWD which is great in winter.

Cons: gas  mileage is not the best in city and about 21mpg hwy. has minor electrical issues but I guess for its age they are acceptable.

It Will Be Mine For Ever!! — This suv is of the best in quality i have ever driven. It"s looks and performance to me, is top of the line. It"s in need of a transmission now and i"ve been trying to find a used one for it but they are hard to find, so it"s off to get it rebuilt. Maintenance in the past has not been bad as far as breakdowns, just the everyday upkeep as we all put up with.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: quality, performance

Cons: none
