why won't my ignition switch return to the lock position ?
Key will not return to lock position even though car is out of gear.

The 1997 Dodge Avenger continues to win praise from owners who love the look and spacious interior of this 2-door coupe.
The styling on the 1997 Dodge Avenger has been tweaked in the front and rear fascias, with a retooled spoiler and fog lights, giving the car an overall sleeker look. New on the ES model are optional 17-inch aluminum wheels. The 16-inch wheels are now standard in all models.
Most notable for the 1997 Avenger is that the V6 engine is now available in both the base and ES models, and the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder five-speed manual is available in the ES. Unfortunately, if you want the increased power of the V6, 2.5-liter 163-horsepower engine, it still only comes in automatic. This is one major complaint of drivers, who want the fun of driving a 5-speed with the power of the V6.
Great handling, a fun drive, and a large interior and trunk are still big pluses. The biggest complaint remains a desire for more power to go with the cool sporty look of the car.

I have a 1997 Avenger ES 2.5 engine with 153,000 miles on it. I do most of the mechanical work on the car myself but simply cannot figure this one out. The car will stall at an idle from time to time...when it is cold or after it is warmed up. It will start right back up but the stalling is getting worse. When it is running the engine does run a little rough but not too bad. I have changed the TPS switch, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the fuel pump and filter around a year ago, replaced the fuel pump relay, all to no avail. A friend of mine in Florida who owns an auto shop says it could be the distributor coil and the distributor would have to be replaced. If that is the case this would make the 3rd distributor which was replaced for reasons other than stalling. There is no light in the dash so I am not sure if I can have any codes pulled. I was going to replace the EGR valve but not sure if that is the problem and I do not want to keep putting parts on the car which may not repair it. Please let me know what you think may be wrong.
I installed a brand new fuel pump it kicks on but no gas coming out what is causing this need help bad thanks. Howard
Where is the location of the starter?
I was wondering what if any, things to look out for with a 1997 Dodge Avenger. I'm looking to buy a personal sale car that has 197 k's, and some sporty racing tires. He is asking 6,000$. I'm wondering if that is a reasonable price? Also, I want to buy a car that is reliable mechanically!!!!
