1996 Lexus GS Preview summaryImage

Lexus added its first ever five-speed automatic transmission to the 1996 GS 300, lending the car a "sportier" feeling. The car continued to be power by a 3.0 liter, six cylinder, 220 horsepower engine.

Other improvements included one-touch operation of the moon roof and the acquisition of 1997 side impact standards a year ahead of schedule. New taillights and rear badging were complimented by five new available color choices.

One driver spoke for many when he wrote how he loved "the interior layout and the smooth lines of the car." Another claimed the GS 300 was "way ahead of its time for 1996."

This car makes me laugh...I think I love it jsut because it was my first car. Great engine...it is powered by the legendary 2JZ-GE motor. Forged connecting rods, pistons, crankshaft...this engine was meant to be boosted. Unfortunately, the twin turbo engine was not an option in the USDM JZS147. I like this car....it is extremely comfortable and love to cruise around town. The suspension does weird things when driven fast so smoothness is key. The brakes do a good job of slowing down this massive slab of car but the brakes do slightly fade when consistently applied with force. I would recommend this car to a person who is looking for a luxury cruiser...this car would make a great JDM VIP project. Jul 08, 2008

It's unbelievably comfy, reliable, drives like a train, everything's electrical, ...it's brilliant. But it's thirtsy and it's large (so tricky to park or manouvre through tight spaces)Dec 28, 2007
