1994 Pontiac Firebird Reviews, Pricing & Specs

I love this car! I always have been a firebird nut. It only has the v-6 3.4l, but the 160 horse power seems fine. It has been a very dependable car. I have 208,000 miles on it with only minor issues. My only main issue is with the digital egr valve. The check engine light will come on when i let off the gas, and start coasting. Had it checked out, and it was the egr valve. Put on a new one with gasket, and cleaned the carbon out of the ports. Reset computer, but the check engine light still comes on. The car runs great, so Iam not going to worry about it anymore. Has a small oil leak, but hey after 208,000 miles i can live with that. Sure i rather have the Trans Am, or Formula, but with the gas prices these days i am happy with the 27 mpg hwy with the v-6. I get plenty of looks, and compliments. There are so many mustangs out there that nobody really pays attention to them anymore. Since the Firebird was discontinued in 2002 they are becoming more rare to see them, so they get more attention. The body style grabs attention more then the boxey mustang. I like to see a mustang get to 200,000 miles with the few minor repairs that i have had with my 1994 firebird.Jan 10, 2012

So I recently bought a Pontiac Firebird 1994 with a 3.4l engine. It's an amazing car, but I already found out that repairs and parts are quite expensive in the Netherlands... Performance: The performance of the car is nice...it accelerates just fine and because it's such a big and heavy car with rear wheel drive, the handling on the road is in my oppinion perfect. But to be honest, I drove a Nissan 100 NX before this car, so that just makes a big difference...Braking is good, but the pedal (like all other pedals as well) is a bit tough...maybe I'm going to ajust that... Build Quality: I had this car like a few months and it suddently broke down...after 6 weeks, they made some unnecessary repairs, like changing the time chain and the time chain gears, spark plugs and -wires, but still wasn't running smoothly. Finaly, a US-Car specialist changed the fuel pump unit, replaced 2 spark plug wires and reset the computer and the car was repaired! Now I have to repair the muffler and cath, because they've been broken during the engine malfunction. I also need to repair the heatingsystem; it's only blowing hot air, no matter if you turn on the airco. Appearance: The exterior of the car is one of the reasons I fell in love with it. The lines of the car are amazing, esspecialy when the headlights are down...it's aerodynamic correct! The interior is nice; you have a good overview of all the buttons on your dash board and the clockworks are easy to overview as well. Clear clocks, with both mph as km/h. The only thing which disappoints me is the condition and choice of fabric for the seats...I wish it was leather, would be much nicer in my oppinion. But on the other hand, the seats are marvelous to sit on. Cost of ownership: Well, as I said before, it isn't very cheap to repair or change parts. Recently the repair costs were like (converted from € to $) $2500,- and still need some small repairs... Gas mileage? I don't know, but as long as I get in and out of the car with a big smile on my face, I really don't care how much gas it uses. Fun factor: For me, 9/10. It has the looks, it has the comfort, it has the sound of power (though it would be nice to have some more hbp) and it's a head turner in The Netherlands...3 words: Unique Car Experience! She is tempermental and often will lose traction easily enough on wet surfaces. She is quite capable of handling sound however and does not rattle like others have. She is sa dream for me to drive onward and onward. She only cost me 2500$ which was the exchange price of a new Grand Am coupe family car 4 cylinder. She has needed ample repairs due to the fact that the previous owner did nothing to take car of her. 140k miles is a long time to go without servicing.Apr 02, 2010

Great car, increadable performance, great styleing, great looks, and awesome to drive on the straights and in the turns. As far as bulid quality is consorned it is somewhat difficult to maintain. but you will fall in love with this car to the point where you wont mind investing your time and money in it. great day to day car, great gas mileage comfertable, fast and always turns heads.Aug 26, 2009

The car is overall a nice car for its time. However owning one today for me is very costly. I have more money in repairs than what the car is worth or what I paid for it and the car has under 60,000 miles. Maybe some last longer, but mine has been giving me grief ever since I owned it. Right now it is messed up and nobody has been able to figure out why. I'm tired of repairing things, and think I'm going to just sell it for a loss. I advise you to look into the reliability of these cars before purchasing. Some can last a long time, but mine has been horrible. I got to know a few mechanics well unfortunately.Aug 06, 2009

This is my baby and my love, and despite the fact that it's falling apart, it's got 150, 000 and is still going strong.

I wish the interior plastics were of higher quality, but for a GM car of the vintage, damn it's a good vehicle.

I can say that I have ploughed into at least 6 curbs my tenure owning it, all on the right front side.  Any lesser small car would have needed thousands in repairs by now, but this car... was almost designed to be ploughed into curbs.

I have needed no more than a few alignments and a few new wheels.   Feb 08, 2009

This car is awesome, it has its good and bad qualities. It has amazing acceleration, Even though it's a V6 doesn't mean it's not a fast car. I get around 24 mpg with this car which isn't bad for a sports car. One great quality is that it has 17 inch low pro rims which look pretty sweet. All I really need to do to this car is re-outfit this car's audio then it will be even more awesome!!Aug 09, 2008

This car was fun to drive. And the only car that made me smile when the engine started with a bark (that is until I got the Bimmer). Awesome seating position, and reliablility and build quality was nice. The only problem was the previous owner beat it, so my engine was never tuned right. Try as I might, with 150k + miles, the over-worked engine never quite worked the way it should have. The car never left me stranded though, it's just that I had high-demands on it's performance. After a few headaches trying to get the car to work like it should have, I ended up having to sell it.Apr 03, 2008
