1994 Dodge Colt Preview summaryImage

A colt is a young horse, not quite ready to play with the big boys, but speedy, playful, and full of energy. A lot of drivers use those terms to describe their experience with the Dodge Colt, so it's appropriate that this practical, but fun city car take its name from such a spirited animal.

New for the 1994 Colt is the ES trim, which really just replaces the old GL name. The 1.8-liter, 113-horsepower engine is now standard in all 4-door sedans and optional for the 2-door ES coupe. The standard coupe houses the 1.5-liter, 92-horsepower engine.

The Dodge Colt was never one for standard accessories such as AC or fancy options such as power windows, but it did come standard with motorized seatbelts in the front. With the introduction of a driver's side airbag in the 1994 Colt, the driver now had a 3-point seat belt and manual lap belt (front passengers still had a motorized belt). Power steering became standard in all sedans this year. On the outside, the coupe got a new fascia, and the 4-door ES got all fancy on us and sported painted bumpers.

1994 was the last year for the Dodge Colt (and its Plymouth twin) as Chrysler was making way for its new Neon. Many drivers mourned the passing of this reliable, energetic, economic car and have held on to theirs for many years. One complaint of long-time owners and used car buyers is the difficulty in finding spare parts today.

this beast can do anything. its been to hell and back twice and it can still do more. it can go through more snow than most cars. very cheap to buy, insure, maintain, and drive. it looks small but actually has alot of room inside.Jan 06, 2008
