Beautiful Sporty Sedan — I love driving my 540i. I also am fearful as I drive her - I'm worried something is going to break and we'll be stuck with another bill. Lets see, so far we've had to put in a new radiator, radiator shroud, fan clutch, fan, coolant sensor, master cylinder seals, power steering fluid reservoir, valve body (transmission), brakes, rotors, battery (big expensive one), tires, etc.

Pros: The power comes on strong at highway speed.  The chassis is well designed and built.  Takes corners at speed with no drama.  Limited to 128mph, but at 128 she feels rock solid.  Great steering feedback.  Great brakes.  Gorgeous body style.  Super comfortable with nice luxury features and quality

Cons: The maintenance is horrendous.  So many things have broken and parts/labor aren't cheap.  Gas mileage stinks and of course must have premium.

My Favorite Car, But Far From Being Practical In Any Way. Unless You're In A Hurry. — Fantastic ride, but for enthusiasts. This is not a car for people who are looking for practical cars, it's high maintenance if you wanna keep it running and it gets low gas mileage. But the way it handles and the power it delivers, it's fantastic for the price it costs! It's truly an ultimate driving machine. And it just so happens to be my favorite looking BMW ever made.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Power, rear wheel drive, manual transmission, limited slip differential, looks, handling.

Cons: Gas mileage, maintenance costs.

Luxury Sedan — Awesome power and comfort sheer bmw driving pleasure, despite the age and mileage on the girl she drives well and the interior design is perfect for it's age. Typical luxury german sedan. Maintained well the car is awesome and the fuel setback is compensated for by the handling, comfort and power

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: handling and power

Cons: Fuel consumption in traffic

A Rare 5 Series For This Area And A Lucky Find From Eric At Dave Walter Bmw — Smallest production V-8 at the time. 5spd manual was longer throw but the best highway cruiser so far. A typical BMW tank. This model was pre-traction control so winters were fun..never got stuck with 4 of the finest speed rated Finnish snows provided by Leipold Tire of Cuyahoga Falls. Acceleration good at highway speeds, mileage quite acceptable in mid - high 20's, inexpensive to drive. Nice color combo dark green over tan leather. A real classy looker with a great V-8 whine.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: A great car but requires manly inputs, nothing is overboosted.

Cons: Felt like pulling a boat in town.

Overall A Nice Car... — Nice car with with sheer driving pleasure, because it is 4wd model... I use it mostly at winter, cause it is so nice to drive in slippery and icy roads here in Finland. I brought it from Germany by myself 6 years ago and it has been in our fleet since that...

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: Pure diving pleasure!!!

Cons: Needs little bit more horsepower...

Very Good For Menagers With A Midle Salary) — High consumption, but if we compare 2.0, 2.5. 3.0 we will see that there aren't a big differences in fuel consumption. Very popular model. During the using some strange technical problems appeared. No body could solve it. So this car had to be sold.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: it's comfortable and strong car

Cons: high fuel consumption

This Car Is Fast, Reliable, And Is A Tank!!! — Ive owned this car for about 4 months and love it!!! it has plenty of power to easily merge into traffic, comfortable, is heavy enough to get traction in snow and gets decent mpg's. i have 210,000 on her and she still runs like a champ!!! maintenance does tend to be a little more but is well worth it. one problem im having is anything that is plastic is breaking but if you want a car that is fun to drive, reliable, quick, and will have you looking good, this is it.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: fast, comfortable, classy

Cons: no cupholders, anything plastic starts to break

My Bmw 518i Touring — The Ultimate Driving machine they said, and they were right. Not a rocket ship, but she gets me and mind to where we want to go reliably. What I like best about this car is the fact that it goes where you point it, never too scary around fast corners, but still interesting to drive.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: load lugger for the whole family

Cons: not the largest 5 series ever made
