1991 Toyota Previa 3 Dr LE Passenger VanReview

Made 350,000 Miles! — We bought this van from relatives ten years ago and it's going on 21 years old and we've had minimal repairs. Just made 350,000 this week! The muffler needed replacing a few times and the water pump once and timing belt at about 150,000, but that's it apart from regular maintenance for tires, brakes, etc. This van is awesome for towing (3500 lbs) and fits everything from plywood sheets to lots of luggage to dressers--also room for dogs in it's cargo area--seats all fold down for to make a bed base (i.e., for camping), very back seats fold up for more cargo room. We keep the middle couch seat folded back for our dog who loves to lay her head on the window ledge with her nose planted where the window opens at the back. Also, one of few cars that fits my husbands 6'3" height. A recent gasket leak means taking out engine for $2,000+ repair, so we may have to trade it in soon...In the mean time, it still runs ok apart from having to add coolant often with a stinky exhaust at start up in a.m. Still a fantastic vehicle, comfortable seats good for long trips. Highly recommend this van! Only make them in Europe now, so our replacement will probably be a Sienna...My husband said he still might keep this one and use it for storing his tools--seems he can't let go yet! :) Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: great cargo space, towing capacity at 3500, roomy comfortable seats, fits tall people, reliable, hauls like a truck but with better gas mileage (18/25). Cons: Takes mid grade unleaded, but I researched it and seems Toyota motors like this were built for high performance and the slightly higher gas requirement means optimal performance which out weighs the cost--it evens out in the end. Also, on super windy days van can feel a bit unstable. |

Love It — Its a great van, has always started, never leaked or burned oil. Its getting old so little things failing now. No big deal, a/c coolant, water pump, rear wiper motor. But its so dependable I keep fixing it. even with 250,000 miles! Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: so dependable Cons: tight working quarters for repairs |

It Is Dependable. — I like very aerodynamic space ship shape. Seems to have break issues that I (an experienced mechanic) have not figured out quite yet. Acceleration is great. Gas mileage is pretty good, seems rather easy to work on as well. AC doesn't work, that is no surprise from what I have heard. Something feels really loose in the front end, not sure what that is yet... Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: Lasts forever if you take care of it Cons: known for AC problems and driveshafts go out. |

I Love My Previa — I love this vehicle, i have had mine for almost 2 years now, and have had minimal to no problems. the motor died in the window-expected of a older vehicle, and the valve cover was leaking-also to be expected in an older vehicle. i do love the storage and seat flexability-you can go from hauling people to fitting in things that don't fit into a pickup truck! for being a (19yr old)4cyl it gets great gas milage, has good acceleration, and has a smooth comfortable ride. stops quickly, you have to keep good tires on it, or just not drive in rain and ice. i also noticed because the motor is under the dirvers seat that it helps warm it up in the winter. we survived last summer without A/C, they changed the freon and you have to get an adapter kit for around $30 in order for the A/C to work. there is a trick to the sliding and back doors in the winter, they will seal shut-i had someone else show me this trick, you have to actually grab just inside the door crack and pull there when you pull open the handle, in the summer, no problems. Pros: space, durability, dependabilty Cons: NOTHING. |

First Actually Owned Vehicle... Crashed It — Very spacious interior good for carrying things and passegers. Smooth, sleek extrior design. Handles pretty well, braking could have been better, and could surprisingly accelerate rather quickly. Pros: Its a Toyota Previa... what else needs to be said? Cons: I crashed it into a tree... |

I Would Buy Another Old Previa To Replace This; Feels Like My Car For Life. By FRITZTHECAT
I always wanted a Previa when they were new. The cost @ $25,000 in 1990-91 was far too high. I managed a used one in 2005 @ $7,900. That may seem high but it was a good investment. very happy. Eng... Read More
