Fantastic Car! I Love It! — Acceleration is great with the 5-speed manual transmission. Brakes work very well, even in the snow and on some ice. Cornering is a breeze. I have had some repairs, outside regular maintenance, but I've done it myself in my driveway. Extremely fun to drive, any weather, any time of year.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: The manual transmission is so much fun to drive and it's so easy to learn in and drive in town or on the highway.

Cons: It has steel wheels and hub caps... the only thing that throws off the handling.

1991 Mazda Protege 4 Dr DX Sedan Review

Mazda Tough — The toughest little car I ever had. I bought it used from a family member. We maintain the care regularly. I would like to find after-market performance parts. The car is really fun to drive. It is easily maintained. In the past five years I have replaced the fuel pump. This was an easy fix. I also replaced the heater core, this one was a little more irritating.

Pros: The Protogege has been abused to the fullest extent and still has never failed to get us home.

Cons: Availability of performance parts

Momo — It's the basic car. It gets down to what motoring is about: fun. The sound and feel of the car is amazing. It isn't the fastest, but you can still have fun below and at the redline. I have only had trouble with the air conditioning.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Fun to drive, sound, reliable

Cons: No tach for manual models, rear drum brakes, not a 6 speed, paint

1991 Mazda Protege 4 Dr DX Sedan Review

The Cheapest Most Reliable Vehicle — I bought it used after totalling my truck, just to have a daily driver until the insurance settled. I kept it for 5 years and when I sold it, it had over 300 000 on the odometer. More reliable than either of my new GM vehicles.

Pros: good milage, reliable, comfortable, good city car

Cons: none
