It is a good car just have to figure out what is wrong with the stalling at stop lights. I hope to get it fixed soon...I have researched every post known to man or woman and I think I am ready to finalize my attempts in fixing solving it...Mar 07, 2013

1991 Harris Chassis Grand American Modified, 400 Small block punched out to
408, Siamese heads, Demon carb 1020cfm with 140 jets for Alky. 600hp to the
ground, 3 speed Muncie 3 speed, Wilwood 6 piston in front and 4 pistion in
back.
Only original part is the Roof panel.
Very expensive to run ...2000-3500 per race, plus any fubars, Gets about 2
miles per gallon of fuel, Methanol.
Fun factor is as expected ..... Life changing experience.
Best finish at Irwindale Speedway was a 3rd. 4/2001

I like everything it's just an classic now so a little more time consuming finding parts but they are out there thanks to AUTO ZONE and the MPG is awesome. You should also purchase the Chiltons Manual if you purchase one of these. Very helpful. Aug 15, 2012

Purchased this car used, in 1992 with 70,000 miles. Kept routine maintenance up and had little problems other than brakes explained above. Car ran well and I sold it to my brother with 200,000 miles on it. He used it as a work car as a union boilermaker and drove it 5 more years. Odometer broke, so don't really know how many total miles were put on it. He then sold it to our baby-brother who drove it 1 more year to his boilermaker jobs. It did take some maintenance with brakes, but held up quite well. It was the only car that went through all three of us that Mom and Dad never had a part in purchasing. Car still ran when it left the family, but the tranny had finally let go. Body was in good shape, but the driver's door had begun to come apart from use. Otherwise the body was good, with no corrosion. Great Car, It had the 3.1 v6. Our father purchased a 1993 model brand new and it held up for 155,000 miles before it left the family. payed $400 for it, worth the money but not much more. it handles poorly and doesn't accelerate fast at all. fixing it is very cheap and usually easy. the stock speakers are surprisingly great. if you need a cheap car this isn't bad.Oct 16, 2011

This car i fined is more stabble in the winter than my pontiac grand prix gtp .Has great acceleration but poor braking but handles very good.Weak part is the alternator and belt.Has a good apperence in and out.I have had this car since 1991 new and over time i put a new engine and transmission and have replaced the brakes all around a few times as well . It runs perfectly for a first car. Some engine work will need to be done. Performance wise, the car has a lot of speed and horse power. The Lumina Z-34 is honestly the best car i had when it comes to the "fun to drive" question.Dec 30, 2009

I cant wait to get this car on the road.The performance is awesome the acceleration is smooth, the braking is not to great, but it handles very well.
I love this car but it does need repairs. I need to put Coil Packs on it, 2 Engine Mounts, and a Rear Seal on it. When i start it it turns on for 5 seconds then it shuts off so i am thinking that the Coil Packs will take care of the power problem because I think my car has loss of power.
The Appearance is not to great but I am waiting until I get it on the road and I am waiting until I get the engine built up until I worry bout paying for a new paint job and putting a new system and interior work in my car.
The Engine Mounts Are going to cost me $10.00 - $30.00 a piece. The Coil Packs will cost $35.00. The Rear Seal Will cost $5.00 - $10.00. Fuel Tank 19.9 gallons.
This is a lot of fun to drive First after I get the parts I need like the Coil Packs, the 2 Engine Mounts, and the Rear Seal. I am going to put a supercharger on it a cold air intake on it over sized pistons and rods a blower with the breather a b&m ratchet shifter a caw induction hood maybe with a shaker put a cam on it too

poor build quality, slow as hell, lame transmission, but comfy and fairly reliable. i have a decent stereo in it so it makes driving it a little less lame. but for a free first car, one can do worse haha. Nov 30, 2009

My l991 lumina sedan has 128,000 mi. Been with me for 19 years. Has been an excellent car. Engine and transmission very strong. Been in NY, Oregon and Arizona with it.
I chuckel at the younger generation giving their cons, like no auto mirrors or CD player, or sharp cornering. No, it's not spirited or a racer car--just an American mid-size 4-dr sedan that us older people used to buy. ")
I'm glad I kept it because it has done me well. One thing I did have to replace in 04 was the main computer. One thing I am doing now in 09 is the fuel injectors. Breaks feel soft but produce just fine when needed. Everything in interior is original. Mileage about 18 mpg around town. Registration cost me $20 this year. An exceptional auto.

Performance the top end speed whit over drive and the best car i have ever owned and its a fun car to drive and handels vary well and the 3.1 mfi motor and wiht bucket seats but the maintenance is well worth your money! Sep 26, 2009

It leaks oil, and transmission fluid. Has poor braking and swims in the corners. Took a deer to the front end a few years back and is still going. It costs a lot to own with the amount of gas that it takes to drive too and from work. How ever it does have 250,000 miles on it and it's still going. Got to love a chevy.Jul 05, 2009

Loved the car so easy to drive and the turn radius was wonderful. Didn't like the handles though. The handles were a pain in the winter. If you pulled too hard they broke and it cost over 50.00 just for the handles but my cousin owns a junk yard so I got it for 5.00.Jan 28, 2009

Pros: Um, I suppose a pro is that it was free; it was my grandpa's car. V6, AC, Power Windows and Doors. 4 Wheel independent suspension with 4 wheel disc brakes (rare for the time). Soft suspension made a comfortable ride.
Cons: Bouncy, land-yacht handling. Tons of body roll when cornering. 3-Speed automatic with no tachometer. Manual mirrors. Exhaust system liked to rust through and sound very loud. Not even a tape player.Jan 27, 2009

I bought this 91 Lumina from my parents about 8 months ago.
They bought it brand new in 92. It is a great car overall, very reliable, rock solid chassis, 3.1 v-6 is tough as nails, impressive amount of low end torque. It currently has 186,500 Km's, has never leaked or burned a drop of oil. Cheap insurance, great on gas, 30+ mpg on highway. No issues with rust either, not even here in Wintery Canada!! Got it two years ago from k-bid for 385 bucks and runs great. Very little trouble with it but when i have trouble it sucks to work on. theres not much room under the hood to work with when theres a problem but otherwise it is very fun to drive. Oct 09, 2008

pleh its grabage on the performance end of things and have many rust spots. but for its age its ok I guess. the cost of owning such a beast is rather low. minimal upkeep aside from having to replace the brakes and back shocks. yea cost is quite minimul! I loved this car because it was a tank. There was nothing I could do to kill it, it always went, even after I got it stuck in mud, jumped it, ran it out of gas. It could take anything. It worked amazing, I never had any issues with it starting in the morning or anything like thatJul 01, 2008

This car has been hit by two 18 wheelers and both times it drove away for the accident! The car has never left me stranded anywhere regardless to the damages. Car has a bored out silver standard 3.1 V6 pushing around 210hp and about 285 ft-lbs. Has a 2500 watt stereo in it with 8 speakers and 2 10inch subs. Custom black on red interior(work in progress). Got it from a friend who no longer needed it. Before i got it all it did was drive him to Seattle and back twice and afterwards sat in the driveway. Had a problem with the thermostat (looked like someone took a welding torch to it), leaking, and when we tried to replace it, it broke in half. This is our second Lumina, the first being a 1992 with a 4 cyl. 2.5 that origionally was owned by the city of Indianapolis Public Works. Both vehicles have been extremely reliable and easy on gas. The 92 with the 4 cyl. had the ever common locking tourque converter isssue which I unplugged, and our presently owned 91 with 3.1 V6 bought obout 2 months ago is constantly on the run as I am a free-lance mechanic here in Indy. I probably run about 100 plus miles daily servicing my regular used car lot customers and running parts.
Last winter we had a severe snow storm here, and the 92 was the only vehicle in this lot (of about 75 vehicles) that with a little patience got off the lot to get my Wifes badly needed medecine. Needless to say people thought I was nuts to go, but being from Northern Canada origionally, I'm quite used to these driving conditions. I made the run without incident. The Lumina weathered the jouney remarkably well. Overall the Chevy Lumina has been one of the best cars we've ever owned. need help with my 1991 chevy lumina 3.1
this car ran fine.then i got a chevy s10 pickup so the lumina sat for over a year and a half untill a friend said she wanted to buy it.i went over to the car and it fired right up several times.so my friend comes over and drives off with it.about 15 miles it just dies so she has it towed to her house.i went over there the next day and put on a coil pack and it fired right up but the battery was weak so i brought her a battery the next day and would not start.so i towed it back to my place and sprayed starting fluid in the intake and it would start so i put on a new fuel filter and would not start so i bought a fuel pressure tester and it was like 30lbs when i just turned the key onso i figured to low of pressure so i put on a fuel pump which was a big pain.then i checked the fuel pressure with just turning the key on and it had 42lbs of fuel pressure so i thought i got it.i tried to start it and it would not not start.i pulled fuses and cvhecked them they was good so i put them back.i had just left the fuel pressure guage hooked up.next morning i went out and it started right up like 6 or 7 times so i took it out for a test drive and got about half a mile and it just died and would not start so i got help and they towed me back home and here i am on here asking for help from anyone that might be able to help so please somebody give mme some advice.thank you
