1990 Audi V8 Preview summaryImage

For a family car that transports the kids in style, or if you're just looking to impress friends, coworkers, and/or clients, the Audi V8 tries to please all types of drivers. No matter what your purpose, the 1990 V8 is certainly luxurious. Don't start looking for options to add on, because most of what you want already comes standard, such as heated front and rear leather seats, sunroof, power mirrors, heated locks, cruise control, trip computer, intermitten wipers, sports seat, ski bag in the trunk (to keep the trunk dry), power adjustable front seats with memory settings, a rear spoiler and fog lights.

As for performance, the 1990 V8 boasts quattro all-wheel drive, which is split 50/50 between front and rear, but apportions traction to the wheels that need it most depending on the road conditions. It is powered by a twin-cam 3.6-liter, 240-hp V8 and a 4-speed automatic transmission that lets you choose between three modes for economy, sporty, or manual performance. Though acceleration is sluggish and fuel economy not great (rated at 14/18 mpg) due to the V8's size and weight, it is a pleasingly fast and fun ride.

Owners love the elegant looks of the 1990 V8, its smooth handling and cornering, and its engine power once it opens up. Inside is beautiful, well-laid out, and comfortable. Riders love the sports seats and heated front and rear seats. The quattro is always praised, as is the sporty feel behind the wheel. Owners also comment that the materials and exterior of the V8 hold up well over the years. Dislikes include bad customer service and wallet-busting repairs. The heaviness of the V8 screams for more engine power.

Though a high performance car in 1990, it would be considered average today. Like other German cars, it really comes alive above 4,500 RPM, It is extremely well made and one of the most comfortable highway cars ever made. At 17-24 MPG, it's not bad on gas, But extremely expensive to work on. It's a car that you buy a great one because restoration is way too expensive. A sleeper, it looks like every other 90's German sedan on the road. I enjoy going everywhere without attracting official attention, but it's handsome, not beautiful. It's a hard car to update because they are so rare. I had to replace the stereo because it could not be updated. However, not much needs updated. I would not call the car fun to drive, but it is very satisfying. It goes, stops and corners extremely well and feels like a quality car.Feb 25, 2010

We had 100,000 miles of happy motoring in this old beast, but now, it's time has passed. Next stop for this 13mpg monster is the shredder. It was a great cruiser, but fun to drive fast in too. Scariest day was when I decided to see how fast it would go - I was on a deserted desert road, straight for about 5 miles, with new tires on the car. With the transmission in Sport mode it would not shift into 4th gear until about 124mph. Just as I hit 135, the belly pan/bottom engine cover came detached and was shattered to pieces, making a huge bang like a tire blowing out. It took me about a mile to slow down to a stop, and when I went back to look for the parts, there was nothing salvagable left. Haven't driven that fast in anything else since.Aug 20, 2008
