It is a full-size luxury sedan after all, decked out with lots of standard features and the unsurpassed quattro all-wheel drive technology, so naturally the 1992 Audi V8 was a tad on the heavy side. In its first four years on the road, the 3.6-liter V8 engine, though fast enough, always seemed a bit underpowered for the V8's size. In 1992, the Audi V8 got a new engine for stronger performance. The 4.2-liter DOHC V8 boasted 276-hp and was paired with a standard three-mode 4-speed automatic transmission.

Also new this year were dual front airbags and a CD changer. The airbags helped boost Audi's already good repuation for safety, thanks to standard 4-wheel ABS and quattro capability. Other nice standard features included a power sunroof, power adjustable front seats, heated locks, heated front and rear leather seats, a tachometer, center console, power heated mirrors, a trip computer, and a ski bag in the trunk for storage and to keep the trunk bed dry.

The 1992 V8 is a rare sight on the road, and this makes parts hard to find and expensive. Other complaints focus on the road noise and disappointing dealer experiences. But it seems most drivers like their V8's new power and speed on the highway, its crisp handling and maneuverability, and the way the quattro sticks to the road. The interior is incredibly comfortable and roomy, and people like the combination of elegance and sporty performance in a full-size sedan.
