Love It Or Hate It Style With Great Reliability. A Great Performing Tank Of Its Time — At first I was attracted to the style, then the price, then the handling and amount of stuff I could fit into the back with the seat down. It was a great car and only developed maintenance issues at more than 250k miles. For a car from 89' that is pretty good. I was able to do most of the major repairers myself, the stealing rack, break roters, exhaust, alternator, fuel pump. I had to have the rear main seal, CV joints and AC done professionally. I finally sold it at more than 340k to get a Toyota Tacoma. It was a great car and I have eyed getting a 92 turbo convert able

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: One of the greatest cars made in its time. Later model Toyota reliability and easy do it yourself maintenance.

Cons: No CD player and not easy to upgrade. No cruise control at the time. The dash has typical places to crack. No much aftermarket to upgrade performance.

Fun T16 — It´s my first car that I´ve had since the beginning of 2006. It stands garaged waiting to get some stuff fixed on it to make it road legal again. It was great fun when it ran and the bodywork + paintjob are in very good condition for its age. It has a different turbo and an IC put in it + some other modifications to perk it up with.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Brisk

Cons: Torque steers

I Highly Recommend This Vehicle To Anyone To Asks. — I had wanted this car for as long as I could remember. I did a national search for her and remarkably found her in Connecticut. 38k miles @ 16 yrs of age. For all intent and purpose, she was in mint condition. The engine is good and strong, even at 21 yrs of age. She is still in amazing condition, and out getting a face lift (paint job) as her beautiful black finish was starting to get a bit faded. The top is still in great condition. Mechanically sound. What a joy this car is to ride! So much fun!

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: LOTS OF FUN!!! And great in the snow!!!

Cons: Minimal leg room.

Bonding Time — My car and i are learning to like each other... He sometimes doesn't like to get gas or unlock and likes to embarrass me some times but it is a great first car with a turning radius i love! I am still getting used to how it shifts ( manual) and it sometimes doesn't like to shift into 1st or reverse,( then i have to let the clutch out a little), but Patrick ( because the sticker on the back says Patrick) is a good first car, even if we do need bonding time.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Turning radius

Cons: no AC and finicky

Nice Convertable — Picked it up on the cheap, ran well but the top had a few rips. I had to replace almost the whole interior and the person who owned it before me did many bad repairs like wiring the fuel pump to the dash lights. The bottom line if you don't know how to work on Saabs please don't.

Pros: Sporty to drive

Cons: turbo seals

Nate's Saab 900 S —

I love my saab. It is a 900 s sedan with a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder making 128 horsepower and 128 lb./ft of torque. It's not a turbo, but I still love to drive it. It has 189,000 miles, runs well, and still gets 27 mpg. It doesn't do anything amazingly, but it is such a unique experience; it's not like anything on the road. The clutch feel is great, the gearbox is great (if you know me you know that I hate automatics), brake feel is good, steering is very long. I love the styling of the classic 900; it is so swedish and weird, but in a good, clean, european way. I also really like saab suspension. It is solid and planted, but still comfortable (I also like hard suspension). I love the europeaness of saabs, meaning tasteful styling, unique driving experience, and good build quality. I hate the cheap, plasticky build of american cars. If I could choose any car, it would probably be a bmw or audi, but I still like saabs. I like different cars for different reasons; I like saabs for being european and quirky, I like bmws for being performance machines that are easy to push to the limits, and are very rewarding to drive fast. All in all, I like my car for being what it is. It's not fast, but it's not suposed to be. I like cars for being what they were intended to be - in this case, a comfortable, swedish sedan that is nice to drive and be in. And the best part about it is that I only paid 400 dollars for it.

Pros: Nice to drive, 5 speed manual, stylish, quirky, good mpg, runs well, european

Cons: Not to quick, wish it was a coupe, front wheel drive (I prefer rear or all wheel), kinda old

Solid As A Rock — Legendary 900, made in Finland! With a bit uncommon color: beryl green. It looks nice especially with sunset colors. 8-valve, fuel injection, 118 hp. I have made some exterior improvements (mainly with original Saab-parts). There will become also some technical upgrades.

Pros: Handling in all conditions. Idiot-proof technics ;) Original appearance.

Cons: Absence of turbo.

1989 Saab 900 SPG Turbo Review
XJR_7525 says:
This Saab was okay. However, the Volvo was 1000% nicer looking, more reliable, more powerful, safer and an overall better vehicle.

Cargo Capacity Ranked 1989 Volvo 780 Turbo worse.
"The only aspect that is better in a Saab 900 than the Volvo 780 is the truck space or cargo space. There was quite a bit more in the Saab. But in the Saab you could also use the rear seats for cargo because, in my opinion the way the rear window/roof is sloped it really intrudes on any passenger in the rear seats except kids probably. "
Family Car Ranked 1989 Volvo 780 Turbo better.
"You could very well fit 4 full sized adults and 5 in a pinch but 4 adults would be very comfortable especially since Volvo is well known to have the best car seats in the business and I can attest to that. They are very supportive and comfortable. Never was in pain after driving from home to Panama City Beach each year which is a 6 1/2 hour drive for me. "
