Chevrolet introduced the Blazer in 1983, gearing it toward people who wanted to pack the kids (maybe) and the dog and their camping gear (definitely) and head for the mountains, but who didn't want a huge truck like the Jeep Wagoneer. The Chevy Blazer was smaller and sportier, but could still go anywhere the driver pointed it. The Blazer was also a big hit among young guys who wanted to create macho super-trucks to go four-wheelin': The boys would start with an existing Blazer - often a cheap, beat-up used one - and replace the tires, suspension, and just about everything else.
The 1989 Chevrolet Blazer was equipped with standard rear-wheel antilock brakes for the first time. Its standard 2.8-liter V6 engine got a smoother, quieter transfer case in 1989. Also new that year were an optional rear window washer/wiper and an electronic instrument panel for high-tech display of usual dashboard information such as RPMs. Other new options included skid plates, alloy wheels, and automatic locking hubs. More-powerful optional engines for the '89 Chevy Blazer were a 4.3-liter, V6, a 160-hp motor based on Chevrolet's "Small-Block" V8, and a 6.2-liter V8.
Rust continued to be a serious problem for the '89 Blazer, and some owners reported problems with front wheel bearings as well. Most owners, however, seemed very pleased with their beasts and reported sturdy, reliable, long-lasting trucks.

What owners say
"Overall, owners love the 1989 Chevrolet Blazer for its reliability, solid performance, and fun driving experience. Many appreciate its powerful engine and ruggedness, making it a great choice for off-road adventures. However, common issues include rust and air conditioning problems, and the gas mileage is often noted as poor."
Just bought this vehicle for an easy 800. love the look of the truck, its big heavy and full of power when you do buy this vehicle there are a few things you need to look at. first of all check the tailgate they 89 blazer is notorious for the rear window breaking down, its not really a big problem they are a dime a dozen but its somthing to look for. also check the rear shackles cause they do rot out alot on this truck not only that but even with a lift this is a pain in the ass job ( this may be more rare on southern trucks ) and also check the steering box have your buddy turn the wheel while you watch it i made the mistake of not checking this and had a scary hour and a half drive home. now overall i love this truck with the size and the power it has but im keeping it just for offroad since it is a big gas guzzler. if you find this truck for a good price i deffinately reccomend getting it.
February 18, 20131989 Silverado Blazer. Soft and hard top, 393ci. race motor w/495ftlbs. of torque. all new metal and interior, B & M shift kit, 6in lift w/ 35 Cooper tires. Custom stereo, 15in LCD screen w/DVD player. This thing is either for show or go. Gets compliments every where I go.
March 31, 2008I love everything about Betsy. I will never get rid of her. The only thing that I dont like is the ROT! The truck to me is priceless! No truck will ever take her place! Its so fun to drive and so much better to take Off-Roading!!! Its under construction as of right now but it will be done eventually!

August 25, 2008Yeah, I paid like 1500.00 for mine and I'd say it's worth it... No major problems like electrical or mechanical, the only thing that has given me problems is the throttle body which was nothing to replace used.
March 21, 2008It Had 16 lights on it. strobes, winch, custom snorkel, custom bull bar, camo, Air horn with compressor, Full Spare. It was loud no cat or muffler straight from header to tail end. This thing was a blast to own and i regret selling it so much
November 28, 2011She is in need of some rust repair and some front diff issues but other than that she is a solid old tank that will never quit.
December 21, 2007I Drove one and my parents have it ,a 1989 chevy blazer s10 tahoe(the good one) has had some problems over the years but still remains to be the car you depend on when you need it. this one has the 4.3 liter v6 and has stayed pretty clean doesnt rust like some 80's cars do. I would recomend this car to someone who is into trucks and has time and money to keep it going. but otherwise has nice interior but not for someone who likes luxury. mine at least has a sun roof and we put in a cd player but still not that great of sound system which is stock. some dash parts have fallen apart like the air conditioning cover and the glove box door came off and the light stayed and drained the battery. but those little things are bound to happen with a older.
March 19, 2008My Blazer is a great truck. It is great on gas, compared to other trucks and SUVs.
January 3, 2008it's good! solid! good performance... very big engine. incredible sound... great handling but no braking at all.. nice acceleration. and the great thing about the car, it doesn't nedd any mechanic. interior is good. exterior not bad. gas mileage is very poor. and it is fun to drive. have one!
