Lot Of Car For The Money But Expensive To Upkeep — Beautiful Classic Collectible Car as time goes on will probably increase in value and desirability. These Like most Mercedes from yesteryear were well built and fairly expensive this one was about 58000 sticker price when new so they are comparatively cheap to buy now say about 10 to 20% of that sticker on an average deal

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Good looking and fun driving collector car reasonable price range

Cons: hard or different to work on at least for the shadetree or non pro guy

Awesome Car — Beautiful car and fun to drive. Definitely an attention grabber, very stylish! Awesome car for top down driving. Good power, handles and brakes well. Has good leg room for driver, I am 6'1" and was always very comfortable driving this classic.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Beautiful interior and classic body style. Convertible top offered awesome weekend and night drives in great style!

Cons: Transmission started having trouble at just over 100,000, but it was probably due to age of the seals 26yrs old. It was minimal damage really inside the trans. Has all new seals in it now.

Fast Enough To Pass Anything Except A Gas Station. — I have always dreamed of owning a 560sl. I bought this used on CL for $5000 and it was in perfect shape. I owned it for 10 months and sold it for $6000. I could not afford the gas. I am a Mercedes diesel owner too and I much prefer the sound and cost of a diesel. The 560sl was a fun car to drive but I quickly realized that I did not enjoy paying a lot for gas (premium) and not driving very far until you you have to gas up again. This car is so fast that it will pass anything except a gas station.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: .Looks, power, big-time head turner

Cons: People will think you are richer than you really are.  If you go out on dates, the women will want you to take them to an expensive restaurant.
You will get Horrible gas mileage. It will average about 12 or 13 mpg around town.

One Of The Best Roadsters For Everyday Driving — This was the pinnacle of German engineering for several years, until discontinued to be replaced by yet another great achievement in automobile engineering. After 21 Years, this car has no squeaks or rattles and is reliable as an everyday driver. I love taking this to winding mountain roads in the morning, makes me feel one with the elements.

Pros: Easy to drive, not easy to loose control. Strong engine and brakes. Very nice fit and finish. Parts are easy to find and relatively cheap (compared to Audi and BMW). No rust. Still turns heads.

Cons: coil shake is pronounced. soft top is mechanical. A/C is weak, normal for German cars of that age. Americanization made this car uglier than the European counterparts (Bumpers, lights), slower too.

An Iconic Mercedes Roadster. — The Mercedes R107 was in production from the late 70's until 1989, ending in the 560SL as the last and most powerful - as well as the most collectible. As expensive as this car was - there are few power comforts other than automatic temperture control and electric windows. The top and seats are manual; The removal hardtop fits beautifully but requires two persons for removal. Having 20+ years of experience building this model, the last years of production are near faultless. After condition and originality, low mileage is where collectors are paying up. A car under 50k miles is worth twice that of one with 100k miles. Things to look for that go bad in late 80's Mercedes: A/C works but heat is erratic - usually something called a monovalve, a rubber diaphram that develops rips over time - cost to repair is about $400; Squirrels sounds from the blower motor - these go bad after 50k miles and start with small squels until it becomes unbearable. $750 to replace.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: What is not to like about a Mercedes SL?....The 560SL is incredibly powerful even for such a heavy solid car. Extreme quality of workmanship.

Cons: You would think Mercedes would have eventually added power seats to this car near the end of the 20+ year production...but no.
