1987 Dodge Lancer Reviews, Pricing & Specs
Write a reviewNo real changes to the 1987 Dodge Lancer. This 5-door hatchback came with three engine options. Base models sported the 2.2-liter, 97-hp I4. There was also a 2.2-liter turbo that boosted power to a pleasing 146-hp. A 2.5-liter, 100-hp I4 was available as well. While a 5-speed manual was standard, you could get a 3-speed automatic.
Offered as either a base or ES hatchback, the 1987 Lancer didn't necessarily bathe one in luxury. Base models came standard with power steering and brakes. For the ES, options included power windows and locks, a sunroof, cruise control, and leather seats. What the Lancer did have was good fuel economy. The base model with the 5-speed boasted 23/34 mpg. The turbo naturally had lower numbers, but owners were willing to trade that in for the increase in power.
Drawbacks to the 1987 Lancer include turbo lag, labored acceleration, a lot of road noise, and problems with electrical system failures. On the plus side, owners feel their Lancer is solid and indestructible. It is very reliable and affordable, making it a good first-time car or family car. The interior is roomy, with comfortable seats.
