The 1985 Dodge Lancer shared the same H-car platform as the LeBaron GTS, which essentially was a longer version of the Chrysler's K-car platform. The 1989 Lancer was a 5-door hatchback that got great fuel economy and was a mid-sized family car. Offered in two trims, the base and ES, the Lancer came with two engine choices, a 2.2-liter, 97-hp I4 and a powerful 2.2 Turbo that hit 146-hp. A 5-speed manual transmission was standard, while a 3-speed automatic was optional.

The 1985 Lancer was comfortable inside, and various options could be added, including a sunroof, sport suspension package, and power windows, locks, and seats. An electronic voice system alerted drivers about everything from low fluid levels, to seat belts, to open doors.

The 1985 Lancer was roomy, say owners, who also love the great power of the turbo engine. One drawback to this is the turbo eats up gas quicker and demands premium gas and oil. However, the base model Lancer got 23/34 mpg, making it an affordable car. Owners also mention the tight cornering of the Lancer and the fact that it has held up well over the years. Complaints focus on weak acceleration power and some problems with electrics.
