1986 Chevrolet Blazer Preview summaryImage

The SUV as we know it today was born in the mid-'80s, and one of the first models was the Chevrolet Blazer (introduced in 1983). Based on the Chevy S-10 truck engine and frame, the Blazer was a slightly smaller, more sporty choice for people who liked to go four-wheeling in a vehicle that could carry all their gear inside and didn't want to drive a huge truck like the Suburban.

The 1986 Chevy S-10 Blazer introduced fuel injection to its optional six-cylinder, 125-hp, 2.8-liter engine. The 1.9-liter, 2.0-liter, and 2.2-liter diesel engines were no longer available on the Blazer as of 1986, replaced by a 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" engine. However, a 6.2-liter 8-cylinder diesel engine was now an option. For 1986, the Chevy K5 Blazer also sported some interior changes: a new dashboard and door panels, plus new seat trim on Sport models.

Air-conditioning, power door locks, power windows (including the rear sliding window), and a limited-slip differential were all options on the 1986 Chevy Blazer.

1986 Chevy Blazer owners rave about its capabilities - towing and going through all kinds of terrain. Rust was a problem, however. The Chevy Blazer was a favorite of young men who wanted to jack up or low-riderize their toys.

It has quite a lot of power, brakes are poor but thats just older trucks. Handling is a little rough on road because of the tires i have on it. Very poor gas mileage, but is a very fun vehicle to drive especially off-road.Dec 11, 2011

This 1986 Blazer is a fantastic vehicle. Great acceleration, stops on a dime, and will get you to and from, on or off the road. The appearance of this truck will get you thinking " BEAST", and when you drive it, you will feel unstopable.Nov 05, 2011

The Chevrolet K5 is a great off-road rig. On the trail it has the ability to haul more gear and passengers than the Jeep. The one small drawback would be the fact that it can feel cumbersome at times, due to it's girth. Overall, I love my Blazer and can't imagine not owning one.Jan 01, 2010
