The Most Bullet Proof Car I've Owned — There was nothing to not like about the Colt DL except the color and no A/C, both mentioned earlier, and both my doing. I loved the twin-stick transmission whign I heard was discontinued because too many dim bulbs out there didn't have the brains to use the clutch when using the econ/power stick so it would ruin the transmission. I wouldn't use the 8 speed mode much except when I was carrying a heavy load such as a six-pack of Coke and a couple of scripts I would go through the entire range of the eight if my passenger was a newbie, but mostly just left it in Econ except when I was entering or exiting a highway. As I was driving 200+ miles a day, and the oil changes were recommended at 3,000 miles, I would just book an appointment with the service manager for two weeks or so. I swear you could drive that car down a flight of stairs and nothing would happen. It had 98,000 miles on it when I sold it to a friends daughter. She went from High School through college.in it and apart from a few dings and dents due to parking problem on campus, it drove as well. I'm not going to say the Colt tugs at the heartstrings like my 74 Super Beetle (see review) does, but between me and Melissa we put on a total of almost 175,000 miles without a single abnormal issue. The only reason it was gotten rid of was because it was T-Boned by a CJ 5 and the KBB in 1997 wasn't all that high. I think the Colt to her was like the bug was to me.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: An amazing little car. Had the twin stick; 8 speeds forward, two in reverse for those hard to get parking spaces. Hatchback which I loved, and no turbo because they were too new and would break around 60,000-80,000 miles.

Cons: No A/C, but that was my bad. It was a tight financial time so I bought the best I could at the time. The color; Medium Blue or Retiree Blue. It was on the lot.

Pocket Rocket......small And Pretty Fast — I own 3 of them. 2 black and one grey. all are stock and they run like a a scalded dog. 35+ mpg and thats not having it in economy! They are hard to find parts for and they arent really worth a lot to anyone out there. Its a shame because they are unique little cars that were made ONE year in that body style. 1984 Dodge Colt GTS Turbo 1.6L, 8 speed......... 1900 lbs dry.

Pros: Powerful but great on gas. Fun to drive but it doesnt have power steering.

Cons: hard to find parts

1984 Dodge Colt — I used to have a 84 Dodge Colt back in the late 80's. It had the 1.6 liter 4 cyl with turbo and 4x2 spd twin stick manual. That car would move. I think I got it up to 110 mph once. Only bad part about the car was the turbo went out at 70,000.

Pros: very fastfor a small econobox

Cons: bad turbo

My Little Rocket — This car was the fastest car I have ever owned. Mine was black and was a 4 speed, but it had an overdrive stick that made each of the 4 gears have a high and low. It was like having 8 speeds. AND had a turbo charger. It could out run a Corvette, yes I raced one...It passed me when I got out of 3rd, and the 'vettes 4bbrs kicked in.

Pros: fast, fun

Cons: bad turbo charger

The Second Best Car I Ever Owned!! — My car was the Turbo GTS blue with light blue interior..Car was VERY quick, I took mine to the UK when I was stationed there..and easily beat many local cars from 0 to 60..after that the Euro gearing of my opponents caught up to me...remember 105 MPH for HOURS on the German Autobahn... Got about 40MPG when I didn't put the foot through the turbo.. twin-stick (8 SPEED!) transmission was ahead of it's time, repair costs were inexpensive as many of the non drive-line parts were compatible with all other Colts made from '79 to 88..the MCA JET valve train meant I had 3 valves per cylinder in a day when 2 valves per cylinder was the only option except for expensive performance cars.. Quick, fun and practical..they need to build a modern equivalent. Had a small rust spot under the door handle, and later the blackened bumpers would easily rust on the surface..about a bumper repaint each 2 years.. Mechanically VERY reliable..needed a new turbo at 98K miles..replaced and the little demon ran like new... Interior was a bit stark..but functional..and it only needed better seats..Would still have the car today had it not been terminally damaged in a North Texas Hailstorm.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Performance,

Cons: Surface rust on bumpers, seats really needed more lateral support
