1984 Alfa Romeo SpiderReview
Beautiful Convertible — I have really enjoyed owning this car since I bought it new in 1984. The drive out price was $17,200 so in 2012 dollars it was a $35,000 car. It's a well built car and IF you fix whatever goes wrong at once then you'll avoid a domino effect of other knock on problems. It has 170,000 miles on it and I still drive it weekly, it was a daily driver for over 18 years and I honestly think that is why it is still around. I have put some money into it over the years and the invention of Al Gore's internet was a blessing after Alfa pulled out of the US in 1994. Nowdays you can get 85% of the parts you need...getting a mechanic who is competent to work on it is much more challenging. Honestly, it's a difficult car to work on, not because of complexity but because everything has to be moved or taken off to get to the tight spaces in the engine compartment. I still marvel at its classic sports car looks, they just don't make them like this anymore. It's a REAL classic.
Primary Use: Commuting to work
Pros: Very good looking car, fun to drive with the top down, fairly reliable and gets 33-35 MPG on the highway. Comfortable ride for a roadster.
Cons: Very hard to find a qualified mechanic to work on it, parts can be sometimes hard to get or find and are not cheap.

unique and fun to drive. Does not move on snow or ice. This is not a safe car, it's a fun car. I feel safe and in control because I enjoy shifting and manuevering. Not a family car, a little roadster Read More
