In its sophomore year, the 1975 Jeep Cherokee continued to appeal to buyers looking for a two-door sporty utility vehicle. AMC introduced the Cherokee Chief package, which incorporated useful extras like power steering as well as some decor touches, for drivers looking for something a little less basic than the entry-level Cherokee.

It's hard to imagine now, after so many years of super-luxurious SUV models, but the '75 Jeep Cherokee was a pretty rugged, stripped-down wagon. That was okay with most drivers, who were looking for durability and off-road performance rather than style.

Engine choices focused on power and torque. The '75 Cherokee shipped with a 258 cubic inch, 4.2 liter AMC inline-6 engine. Drivers looking for more power could upgrade to a choice of two V-8 mills: a 360 cubic inch, 5.9 liter or a 401 cubic inch 6.6 liter plant that kicked out a whopping 280 horsepower.
