2004 saturn ion 2.2 won't start

When I bought my 2004 saturn ion 2.2 I
was told all it needed was a fuel pump.  
Bought that still won't start got a icm still
won't start . And a fuel relay,  still won't

Have You tested anything like spark or injection pulse or compression? Do You have tools?
