2006 AWD Pontiac Vibe - water on driver side, front & back

Asked by Kathleen May 28, 2011 at 11:48 PM about the 2006 Pontiac Vibe Base AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have had very heavy rainfall and yesterday I noticed approx. 2" of water collected on the floorboard, driver side in the back.  There was also approx. 1" of water on the driver side front floor.  I do not have a sun roof and there is no clear evidence as to how the water got in.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be happening?

Well it could be just the seals on the windows seeping in, which would go into door panel which in turn goes to the floor of your car hiding all evidence of the seepage.

Did you have any luck with the problem? I have a 2005 Vibe and have now had two occasions of 1/2-1" of water accumulation on the floorboard behind the driver's seat, with clear indication of where the water is entering the car.

There are plugs in the floor underneath the carpeting these plugs are used for draining water should this happen. If you have time, take drivers seat out (simple only four bolts to remove on brackets). Pull all trim off and carpetting up and check to ensure these plugs are still in place, you may be able to look under car to see the plugs too try that first. They are about an inch in diameter normally. Also you are certain its water and not coolant and water from cooling system? (Not sure how much water if any you have mixed in with coolant). Did you buy the car second hand? Some people try and modify vehicles and don't know what they're doing. If aftermarket stereo or something was installed, some idiot could have removed a floor plug and put it back half-assed or broken.
