2000 Oldsmobile Bravada shifter stuck in park

Asked by shelby_lee Nov 19, 2022 at 09:36 PM about the 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada 4 Dr STD AWD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Shifter will not move at all. Brake lights work and I can hear the solenoid
when I press the brake, so I don't think it's the brake switch. I can hear
clicking when I press the button on the shifter but it won't budge. I tried the
manual override beneath the leather boot and had no luck. What should I
look at next? Car is stuck in my garage and obviously not drivable, so can't
exactly take it to the mechanic.

You're hearing everything that would indicate that everything is working properly. But there's something either broken or out of adjustment. Likely, the cable to the trans is broken or maladjusted. But even if you hear the solenoid, it might be broken. You might have a temporary release for this. See if there's a slot or small cover near the shifter. There's a button-release in there that should get the shifter out of park.
