Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After driving about 30 or 40 minutes my traction
control an service ESC lights go off, as well as my
transmission will start slipping I was told it could
be a speed sensor, it's a new vehicle to me as well

It’s thirteen years old, more things are going to happen. Find a good independent shop and get it checked. On GM vehicles speed sensor failures are common but so are corroded connectors.

I would think you're in Limp Mode, but if so, you'd have a Check Engine Light, as well. When the CEL illuminates, Traction and Stability controls are shut off, as well a the Cruise Control. Then if severe, Limp limits the engine and trans. This is a 14 year old hybrid that should have been checked by a mechanic prior to purchase. Now you need a mechanic to find what's wrong... And this isn't just a Speed Sensor. If the car has over 140,000 miles, it might be a battery problem.
