Could be. Dose the same belt turn the water pump and the altanator?

yes, there are 3 belts and the one belt is sooooo loose that it almost falls off which operates the alternator, Water pump and the fan all on the same belt. we also bought a new radiator cap since the old one did not fit properly (it was real loose, like someone put the wrong one on) i appreicate all your knowledge, being on a fixed income, i really cant afford the california dealership prices

Yeah! And with all those taxes you guys are saddled with, I don't know how you all survive! Here is a hint as how to save some money on those belts that you need if you have a Advanced Auto Parts store near you. Google Advanced Auto Parts coupons. Select the parts you need and apply the coupon for savings. As for having them put on, if your not handy, see if there's a Technical School near by that will do the job. They don't charge much and it's good experience for the students. Good luck.

I was thinking. Perhaps the alternator is just lose. Perhaps just adjusting it then tightening it will save you the cost of a replacement.
