a coolant hose and my car ran hot

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my car started to run hot so I pulled over to let it cool off. I check coolant
levels after I let it sit a while. I added coolant while car was running and
turned my defrost on to make sure it would stay to temp and not run hot. The
temperature held in the middle but I noticed a large amount of coolant under
the car. So I tried to make to the nearest part store. The car started to run hot
so I pulled over and let it cool a little then, while car was running i added
coolant and noticed alot more than before under the car. So I started the car
and pulled it into a parking spot. while waiting for someone to come I try to
start it again and it would turn over but not start. We let it sit and came back
the next day. Found the hose needed to be repaired we did this and filled
with coolant. The car will not start though! What could this be?

the question is this.. is there a different component of the coolant system that failed, THUS causing intense pressure to blow out the hose. I'm willing to bet you there is a problem somewhere else.. coolant temperature sensor most likely ( for a car that old). you very well could have a water pump problem is you have or had puddles. Coolant will escape out of that water pump if the seal is broken. Doesn't help either if your thermostat is stuck and wont allow the coolant to flow freely.. causes pressure to build up.. very easy to blow out an old rubber lining of a hose if you don't keep up on your maint.

The two may be unrelated , a problem may have occurred because of the over heating so you would treat it as any no start situation , check for proper spark , fuel pressure injector pulse ., thermostat is the first thing the pressure will find the weakest link ie. radiator cap , hose fitting . I would advise going to the dealer for a thermostat , bite the bullet and pay the $$ a cheap one is not reliable . They cost $8** , you can't get a sandwich for $8**
