Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a new 2019 Imprenza, Picked it up a week ago. After car is warmed up,
the check engine light goes on and the trip meter flashes. The gas cap was
checked. I was told that it may be due to bad gas which I never heard of that
before. Have you? It is in the shop now.

Being a new car with a warranty, the Subaru dealer should scan for fault codes and fix it. Saying it's "bad gas" without supporting test results is mere speculation. Diagnosis and repair has to be based on facts.

Okay...they drained all the old gas and cleaned out gas chamber. Test drove the car for a couple days. Resulted in no check engine light. My question is should I now on use higher octane premium gas to avoid this problem again?

It looks like the gasoline was the problem. It probably had water in it or some other contaminate....who knows. Going to a higher octane won't necessarily make it better quality. But I would certainly buy my gas somewhere else as some of these underground tanks have leaks and ground water gets in. Even the transport truck might have had trash sloshing around in the tank. Don't buy gas while the gas tanker is unloading...stirs up trash. The refinery tests every batch going out...my Dad and I worked Quaker State a long time ago and we can tell stories. So go with the grade recommended by Subaru and buy a different brand. Thanks for your reply. Every question is a learning experience for everyone.

The new car is back in the shop again. This time, an engineer looked it over and ordered a fuel injector. I haven't had the car not even one week. Would like to get my money back...could I still do that? After they replace this fuel injector, will I still have problems with the performance of the car or the engine startup?

Get into my 2019 Impreza this morning and Check Engine light on. Did check gas cap, light still on. I do not like new technology for cars....it always brings problems. Never had an issue with my 2009 Yaris! = No electronics!
