Keys with a chip in them

My car won't start I was wondering about
the keys with a chip in it and what does
that cause the car 2 do

yes its the one that came with it. it will turn over fine but no spark or fuel

Do 2003 Mitsubishis keys have a chip? My son has lost the key to this and I am trying to figure out about the chip.
