Probably a failed frost plug. They can corrode out. Replacement is usually not fun. Also check or replace the plastic elbows to the heater. They like to fail and will leave you stranded.

Trying to take radiator out of a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass do I have to release the motor mounts front

No. I just checked my shop manual. There is no need to remove the mounts. Unbolt the mounting panel and it lifts out, after draining, disconnecting hoses and transmission lines, and fans, of course.
