what is the little knob with a brass center on the throttle body of a 2004 mercury mountaineer

Asked by soldierbp Jul 22, 2018 at 03:06 PM about the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer Premier AWD

Question type: General

I changed out my intake manifold on my Mountaineer. I was proud that I had no extra pieces. However, when I went to start her up she went straight into Engine Failsafe Mode. Upon further investigation, I found there was a piece broken off of the throttle body. I googled it and it is a hexagon looking bolt/knob with a brass center. What is it? Could this be what sent it to failsafe mode? can I buy just this one piece or the whole throttle body? thanks in advance for any help!

Bring it into a QUALITY Auto parts store and show it to them.If they cant get it Go to Ford.Or buy a whole used throttle body and swap it

Thanks. But what is it? Important enough to throw it in failsafe mode? Obviously does something or they would not have wasted time to make it. Hahahaha hoping it is a simple fix. Dont really want to spend &500- $600 on a throttle body.

I dont know.I would have told you.Just trying to help you find an answer. When you bring it in to a parts place or Ford they will know. Maybe even just text a picture to Ford service dept.
