97 tracer flywheel turning but engine crank not turning

So we just swapped put the head on a 97 mercury tracer with a rebuilt head.
We got it back together, started it up and it ran fine. Took it for a drive, made it
about 2 blocks then it revel up to about 5000 rpms while nor really moving.
My son turned it off and we have been troubleshooting all day. The starter
seems fine, there is spark, the crank sensor ohmedout ok. But while the
flywheel spins, the engine does not turn. Any ideas
