Had same problem with 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3100 miles on car. Stopped at a store and when we got back in the radio went to top volume though the volume control said it was at low, Tried turning off car and sitting for a couple of minutes, No effect. When you moved the volume control from zero to one the radio went from off to top volume. Did not matter which station, AM, FW, Sirius XM. Also Voice Commands. Parked car in garage and checked after several hours - radio ok and volume control normal.
Sitting in the dealership right now for the same issue. My Cherokee was less than 24 hours old when the radio got this full blast volume problem. My wife turned on the heated seat, switched screens back to the map and BAM radio went full blast and was stuck there no matter what I did. I could mute it, and I could turn it to zero, but there was no in between. Like OP said, the dial showed the volume going up and down, but the sound was still full blast.
Same problem here with a 2019 Grand Cherokee Limited - less than 12 hours off the lot. The volume got loud after trying to turn the heated steering wheel off.
This just happened to me. Did the problem resolve itself or did you have to take it to the dealer?
This just happened to my 2018 Grand Jeep Cherokee Limited. I got it last weekend and now all of a sudden my volume is stuck on full blast. Did anyone have any luck with getting it fixed?
2019 Grand Cherokee 2100 miles was using the Navigation buttons and BLAMMO !!! full volume jumped out of my seat! everything functions but when you turn to volume 1 it blasts you out of the seat, We have the standard 6 speaker system. have an appointment with service this Friday , Anyone get it fixed yet?
Dealer updated software a few weeks ago and it hasn’t happened since. So far, so good.

Just had it happen to my 2019 Grand Cherokee Altitude. Just bought it yesterday. What was the fix?
Zer0CooL218 answered 5 years ago
GuruXR2FX, how long did it take the dealer to fix? Do you know what the software update was called?
SAME THING HAPPENED TO US. ONE MINUTE THE VOLUME IS FINE--THE NEXT IT IS EITHER MUTE OR FULL VOLUME. IT CORRECTED ITSELF AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES. CAR WAS 2 WEEKS OLD!
I had the same problem on my Cherokee, went into settings, restored settings and the volume control came back. May happen again without the software update but 2 weeks later volume is still good. Good luck
Happen to my compass yesterday! Nearly gave me a heart attack!
Had the same problem with the limited x I just got like an hour ago. They are telling me to go to the service Dept. To update software. What a buzz kill on the purchase
I turned on my car and plugged in my phone to charge. As soon as I hit the radio button it went FULL BLAST. It turned down but usually 11 was a good volume to have it on. Now I can't go above 2 without to be way too loud and I'm pretty sure my speaker blew out sounds like crap now.

2019 altitude less than 1700 miles and love the Jeep so far, something happened yesterday got in the car and all sudden volume from 1-38 was paid as hell. Guess I will have to sit at the dealer for 12 hours for a software update. Any other self solutions out there ?
Did anyone get a real fix for this? My car has the most current software according to the dealer and the web, yet I had this same issue the other day? Does it happen more than once?
Same here. My Cherokee has only 1800 miles and this is the second time it has happened. It also says my software is up to date. Very frustrating
I disconnected the battery for 15 seconds then reconnected. It fixed the problem for now but I'm gonna take it in for the software fix.
went I went to the dealer they could not fix the problem and said they would order me a new radio. when they went to order it they were told they had to go through a department of Chrysler called STAR that is "investigating" I went around and around with the dealer( who was going around and around with Chrysler. Chrysler had them send some info from the computer and then after they got that info they wanted a video of what the problem was. and of course it had corrected itself after 2 days. so they wanted me to just wait until it happened again and for me to send them a video. I told them this was not acceptable and was able to have the general manager of the dealership contact the local Chrysler rep who was able to say they would order a new radio. that was a couple days ago so I am waiting for that to happen.
same problem with a 2019 jeep cherokee ltd... 16 month old car that went into sound orbit (full volume) when I turned the car on... wasn't like that when I turned the car off 3 hrs. before. Could not fix it till I spun the volume knob a few times... thankfully, stopped. let's hope it stays fixed
Aug. 2019 Same thing happened to me with my 2019 Jeep cherokee Ltd. Two months old, 700 miles. Went into settings to increase volume on back up alarm. Radio was working fine. Came home and as we pulled into the garage the radio volume went full blast and could not be lowered. We had to get out of the car. It effected our cell phone volume which comes through the radio speaker, therefore we could not use it or the GPS. Volume was deafening. Next morning I went down to try it again before calling dealer and it was fine. Tony.
Just happened to me. 2019 grand cherokee. Was on the road and all of a sudden it started at top volume. Call came in and it got louder. GPS as well. Called the dealer and they are checking on a software update for me. Geez just bought it in May
just asked my local dealer about this AGAIN last week and they said Jeep still does't have the software patch ready yet to fix this
wow...I'm in the boat...2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited - radio went to full volume yesterday - I've been getting random AC when the vent is on; can't hold pre-sets for Sirius and sometimes the motor will race to full rpm when first started the die down quickly (thank God!). Sure glad I'm leasing this car - I'll be returning it and won't be getting another one.
This just happened to me this morning to my 2019 Jeep Compass. I went to turn off my heated steering wheel and the music started blasting. I'm just wondering if for most people it just went back to normal or if you had to go to the dealership?
Update for my case - hope it works out for others - after a night in the garage, the radio is working normally. I'm not totally happy with the result because it, like the problem, happened randomly without any reason...those kinds of things usually find a way back on the scene if not corrected. Another weird thing - I have the V6. The transmission which I think is 8 speeds seems to have a problem finding the appropriate lower gear when I need to accelerate after making a turn or at moderate acceleration entering a highway - all at speeds between say 35 and 45 mph. It's either in too high of gear which doesn't safely allow me to move out reasonably or I have to really depress the accelerator at which point I get a gear which lurches forward smartly - i.e., it's not easy to drive smoothly. We have a Camry which has great driveability - never gets confused - always in the right gear. Sorry to all of you Jeep fans if these things seem like trivial rants but, since our family started buying Japanese and Korean cars many years ago, I have a higher bar for quality and Jeep doesn't meet it. I like the style of the Cherokee, the ride/seats are great and my lease deal was positively insane but this other "stuff" is really unacceptable....especially since this car listed for over $37,000.....wow, I hope no one on these posts ever paid anywhere near that price for the car!
same problem here, on my 2019 cherokee.
Same thing two days ago!! 2019 Grand Cherokee 4099 miles. While I was driving 75mph down the highway!!! It was horrible- My dog was even in pain.
2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Ecodiesel Just happened to me on my way home after a few hours of driving. 10 minutes from home and it seemed like my front left speaker went out (mid volume), I tried to change the volume and nothing, it wouldn't change. I had to change the fade and balance to the front left speaker to get it to drop. Once I got home I shut off the vehicle for a while. Went out started it and volume went to 38, but I was able to turn out down and everything is now working.... 54,000 miles and this is a first!
2020 Grand Cherokee Limited C 1000 miles and I just got blasted by my radio
Sadly, I love my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Ltd, and had this happen today on way to store. When finished at store, it still is blasting or nothing. I hope tomorrow I don’t have to deal with the dealership. I too, have trouble with my Sirius presets not staying where I set them. :(
still waiting for the "software fix"....called my dealer again and he said they still haven't fixed it....surprising and not in a good way. When my lease is up, next one will not be a Jeep!
This just happened to me today. Went to press the navigation control, and suddenly the volume went straight to max and is stuck there, unless I turn it to zero or mute it. Unfortunately, it affected the volume with navigation and my phone while connected through the car. Has there been a fix? Or do I have to wait for it to fix itself? I trued resetting the system, but it did not help.
This happen to me today!! Our Jeep dealer said to turn car off and remove key from car area. He said The car does a reset every time it shuts off. Worked for me. Hope it doesn’t happen again. Dealer said much more involved if they had to do an system update.
Happened to me today (2018). Pulled over to shut it off, on restart there is zero volume. Checked for a software update and it says it’s up to date?
Happened to me today while backing into my garage with rear back up camera on - volume suddenly blasted to super loud. Then would only go from 0 (no sound) to 1 (full blast). 2019 Cherokee, 12,000 miles. My ears are still ringing, and it scared the sh*# out of me when it happened.
Happened again... exactly 1 year from the first time it happened. Gonna let it sit for a couple of hours and see if it resets itself. My belief is someone at jeep Corp is doing an update.
follow up..called UCONNECT they are useless!! Hopefully this resets
Same happened to my 2020 Chy Pacifica!
Abdallah_Kh answered 3 years ago
Just happened to my Jeep Renegade 2019... Volume is 0 now... When increase to 1, it goes soooooooooo high... even the instructions to map, is so high, so I had to stop navigation...
I was told when this happened to me (year ago) that a "software fix" was coming out.... talked to dealer every few months about the "fix" and now they say they don't know anything about a "fix" . Fortunately, it has not happened again... I have talked to 3 dealers... not much help
just happened to me this morning on brand new grand cherokee. they told me to call u-connect lol
Has anyone gotten an update on how to resolve this issue? My car did it this morning while driving home. It still hasn’t reset itself. How long does it have to sit?
Still no fix. Just happened to my parent's car today.
Glad I found this page. This happened to me last night in my 2020 Dodge Durango with 5050 miles. I’m hoping it will be back to normal this morning. At least I know I’m not alone.
Happened to me a similar issue with my Cherokee 2019 - level stuck at 7. No way to hear phone or music.
Happened to me today 2020 Grand Cherokee. 450 miles on it had it just over 3 weeks. Radio went super high when we changed a channel. it is stuck on high now can lower it to off but volume #1 is like max volume. I took it to the dealer they said they know about the problems and disconnected the battery and then reconnected it and that worked for now I guess. Until jeep comes out with a radio update.
thank you for all of your posts. Happened to me today 2020 Grand Cherokee Limited with 4,000 miles on the car. Checked after 10 minutes and still had the issue. Waited about 30 minutes and it is fixed. Same thing as other comments....vol #1 is max volume.
Happened to me today 2019 Grand Cherokee Altitude. EAR SPLITTING. UConnect is useless as a previous poster mentioned. They tried to tell me to hold the green phone button and the voice rec button on the steering wheel simultaneously for 30 seconds, then turn the car off and open the driver side door for 30 seconds. Then turn the car back on and try the radio. Got blown out again by the speakers. Ugh
. Just had the same thing happen while on the highway. The sudden deafening top volume almost blew me out of the seat and I am stuck with a migraine headache just 1 hour into a 6- hour road trip! Can also not use my GPS due to the speaker volume. 10-month old Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with 14,500 miles. Have tried all the above suggested DIY remedies. Nothing helps. It makes me mad that Jeep sees nothing wrong with charging over $40,000 for such a crap-quality vehicle.
Every time I go to the dealership I ask about this supposed "fix" that Jeep was supposed to have (that was over a year ago)- Dealership is of NO help. Since that time, my navigation system is useless and I regret paying so much for it! The dealership alternately acts like they never heard of the problem or tells me that the fix is still "coming". My lease is up in a few months and I sure will not be re-leasing a Jeep!
Happened to me today in my 2020 grand Cherokee, I almost shat myself when it happened lol dealer said it has a software update that will take 1 1/2 hrs to do.

same to me on my Cherokee Limited 2020, 1500 miles. The blast almost blowed me out of the car. Hope it will set itself until tomorrow with the key far away...
Same thing today on my 2017 Jeep Compass. I've had it three weeks and I think I just lots the hearing in my right ear. How can there be SO many incidences?? Same new Jeeps, same problem?? Very strange.

Same thing just happened to me. 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. my wife went to turn her seat warmer on and POW, we got blasted. Volume from 0-38. No in between. My ears are still ringing. Hopefully it will reset itself in a little while. This is totally unacceptable for so many people to be having the same problem and nobody having a real answer!!!

This just happened to me and mine is a 2021 Grand Cherokee 80th Anniversary edition. I wish someone had the answer as to why. I just went and checked to see if the volume control was working after it sitting for 3 hrs. I went back to normal. Not impressed.

This just happened to me on my 2020 Jeep Compass. I swear I heard a "pop" on my radio before it happened. Was listening to my podcast, hit rewind on my screen & it popped then blasted me with full volume that cannot be lowered. Car has been sitting for a few hours in the parking lot at work so we will see where it is at when I leave. Have an appointment tomorrow AM to have this looked at, guy at the dealership said "hmmm that is very interesting, I have never heard of that" when I told him the problem.

I have a 2021 Gradn Cherokee, only 8500 miles and bought back in Dec 2020.....I was blasted out while trying to lower volume...no going to 1 it blast me out.....anyone come up with solution at all???
They issued updates and hope that fixes it. If it happens again disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes and then reconnect it. This will make the radio reboot. The dealer showed me while he did mine and it worked for over a year so far.

I had the same experience as all the above. Turned on the radio and it was blasting. Tried everything to no result. Waiting for the dealer to call me back.

On our 2020 Cherokee Trailhawk, pulled into garage, put it into park and the volume went to maximum. The volume knob provided no relief until placed on zero or the radio muted. I found this post and am amazed at the number of instances over 3 years of this issue. Thanks to everyone. After about an hour, I checked the radio again and the issue has resolved itself. I wonder if it will occur again.

Experienced this same blasting volume today with my 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Scared the heck out of me. Hoping it will reset and resume normal volume after a little resting. I just can't handle no radio!
Guru9HWL54 answered 2 years ago
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee 80th edition and same problem with volume control. When I put the system in reverse from park, the volume blasted to full setting - I assume full setting because I would NEVER go that loud. Went to unconnected to check on how to update software myself and it checked my VIN and said I was up to date https://www.driveuconnect.com/support/software-update.html. There are instructions there on how to update your software yourself… but not sure that will solve the issue.
Guru9HWL54 answered 2 years ago
Follow up to above: in addition to checking for and/or installing the software update you can both preform a soft and hard rest of the Uconnect system. Soft rest worked in my 2021 Grand Cherokee by pushing the power and tuner buttons for about 20 seconds https://www.gunterchryslerdodgejeepramofmartinsville.com/discover-how-to- reset-chrysler-uconnect/. As part of my research I learned how to check for map software updates as well https://chryslergroup.navigation.com/home/en_US/ChryslerNA/USD
