When driving  the temperature gauge goes
up  in the red and then it'll go back to
normal. While its in the red the heater blows
cold air, and when its normal the heater
blows warm air. could it be thermostat

Yes i have checked coolant level and it is fine. Btw the reservoir is rusty looking down inside

Rusty looking as the plastic being stained? Well the thermostat is never a terrible thing to change, it and the seal for your car are pretty cheap. That will also give you opportunity to burp the coolant system and get any air out of the sytem that may have been trapped

thanks for all the feedback, i was pritty much leaning towards the thermostat just needed a little reassurance.thanks to everybody. i will post the results tomorrow.

Check for coolant in the oil before guessing a repair. Next have a technician test for exhaust gas in antifreeze. Your symptom is classic blown head gasket. What size motor?
