96 RHD Jeep Cherokee OVERHEATING!! HELP!

Asked by GuruWQZN4 May 13, 2018 at 10:05 AM about the 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am a mail carrier and deliver out of a 96 Jeep Cherokee
right hand drive. This Jeep was imported from Japan so
the gauges read in KM and Celsius. When I’m out on the
route, I’m baking in the heat and wish like like crazy I
could use my AC, but it’s impossible when the Jeep keeps
overheating. I had my radiator upgraded and replaced,
took clutch fan out and replaced with upgraded dual
electric fans set to come on at like 170 degrees F,
upgraded water pump to FloKooler that pushes extra
coolant through when RPM is under 900, punched out the
thermostat so it’s on full flow all the time (no, I don’t have
heat in the Jeep right now), and added coolant additives
to help with keeping coolant temp low. When I’m riding
highway, life is BEAUTIFUL! AC works and Jeep stay
super cool. But out on the route, sometimes I even have
the heat on full blast and am STILL creeping into the red.
Please help!

If the A.C condenser is in front of the radiator most likely clogged with dirt and bugs spray out condenser with garden hose and nozzle this will allow better air across the condenser to the radiator.

Rhd water pumps fins go opposite of lhd you probably got the wrong pump. Call Chrysler to get correct pump

I know this is an old post but in case anyone runs across it the previous poster in an idiot. The water pumps on xjs are the same across lhd and rhd. I'm sure the guy probably got it fixed but in my same experience his internal passages in the radiator were probably clogged. Never knock out the thermostat and run it straight through, you run the risk of cracking the head due to uneven heating.
