Swap a 4.0 from a 96 explorer into a 99 ranger 5 speed

Asked by EastTXbighand Mar 02, 2018 at 11:55 PM about the 1999 Ford Ranger XL Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I Have a 99 ranger 4.0 v6 with a blown head
gasket. Found a 96 explorer for cheap with a 4.0 v6
in it. The explorer has an automatic transmission
and my ranger is a 5 speed 2wd. Will the explorer
motor bolt up to my transmission? And I'm also
concerned about the wiring harness and tripping
the anti theft. Please help.

No. Depending on what part of 96 could very well make them both obd2 Swap computers for the model could be helpful however at some point you will still have to flash them bc one team manual one trans isn’t inla I’m so any and all sensors related to the auto trans that don’t get hooked up for obvious reason will automatically throw a code for fault

Also it depends what type of trans you have auto so to change to manual you have to change flexplate to flywheel for clutch and install pilot bearing in crankshaft. Also check to see if your vacuum lines on old engine are intact. New engine may have different or additional vacuum lines for trans change them out to your old one
