1989 Chevy 4x4 1500 truck - manual transmission

Transmission worked fine until when stuck in heavy snow, I shifted vigorously
from fwd to reverse many times but got nowhere.  After that, the.something
happened and the truck would not move at all in either direction.  When the
snow was gone, I got the truck to drive forward and go into reverse, but not
easily and very slowly no matter how much accelerator was pushed.  

What is best guess as to what happened?
