Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok so I changed the oil in my 86 scottsdale with
5.7l in it. Changed the filter as well let it drain
forever an blew what I could out by blowing in the
vavle cover. I 5 quarts in it and drove it for a little
bit like 300 miles before checking the oil again and
its reading way over full. But it can't be as full as its
reqding becuz it leaks oil a little and I put a little
less than recommended. Why would it read overfill
if I put the correct amount? I'm mechanically
inclined but this has me stummped. Maybe when
the person who had the truck swapped the engine
they put the 305 dipstick that was in the previous
motor in it? Or its really overfill

how much oil did you put in ? what you posted reads 15 quarts , you don't have to blow air in the valve cover , the warm oil will drain out just fine and it doesn't have to sit till every little drop has come out , a v-8 should take 5 quarts and be happy , of course there's no telling what someone else has done , after all it is a world of idiots
