Subaru intermittent start problems

Asked by Guru1P2BG Sep 21, 2019 at 10:23 PM about the 2016 Subaru Outback 3.6R Touring

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

No warning, all of a sudden it won't turn over.  No sluggish starting prior.  A
jump wouldn't work and headlights stayed bright while trying to start.
Someone brought a lithium battery over and it started.  We have original
factory battery 2016.  Any bad battery before, on other vehicles, lights dimmed
when starting. Maybe a loose contact in ignition system????   Thanks.

Can't hurt to clean and tighten the battery connections but 3 years is old for a Subaru factory battery.

Thank you, I replaced the battery yesterday, hopefully that solved it. I do wonder if there was a short somewhere.

I am having the same problem. Replaced the battery and still have to jump it if it sits for longer that 5-7 days. We had the short trip software installed, but it appears that the battery is still not charged enough. I am trying to run expressway with it every trip now, to give the alternator a chance to recharge the battery. If anyone has a fix, I would love to hear it.
