2012 Hyundai Accent 1.6 motion. Overheating problem

Asked by GuruWYYSQ Apr 21, 2018 at 07:07 AM about the 2012 Hyundai Accent GL Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car Hyundai Accent 2012 model has an
overheating problem and it's stressing coz the
Hyundai dealership is asking that I put a new
engine on which will cost me R101000 for them to
install it. I know there's ways of fixing the problem
without replacing the engine. Please advise. I was
driving to Botswana from south Africa and it lost
power without giving me any sign that it was
overheating. When I stopped I realized that it was
overheating and had no water in the bottle and the
engine. The surprise part was that I checked
everything before taking the trip, oil. Water but for
it to overheat  was a shock to me

It is not easy to give you certain diagnosis without actually checking the car, but if the engine overheated to the point where internal/external parts were damaged, there is no solution; rebuilt or replace the engine and both are expensive. Does the engine turns at all when you try to start it, or just do nothing? Does it start but makes knocking sounds? If possible, you may want to check with an independent mechanic shop for a second opinion.
