Alternator or Ignition Coil

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello I have a 1995 Honda Civic Dx 2-dr coupe I am the original owner I have never had any issues with my honda because I would always keep the oil changes and fluids and tune-up.  But in the past 3 years I fell into some hardcore financial difficulties and it prohibited me on several ocasions not able to get my oil change tune up or any other maintenance done. But for some reason this year 2017 one day before easter sunday I was driving home and the battery light had been on this whole time the car just completely stopped while I was on the Freeway it just shut off so I pulled it to the side waited for two service. My honda shut off before and the battery light was on also but I waited 2 minutes and then it re-started and I was able to get home that was in Late March and early April before it finally shut down the day before easter. I also had the manufacture install a Car alarm system but that was in 1995 the same day as purchase and I realized since my alarm is attached to my battery and if my alarm is faulty the car will not start. Can you figure out whether this is a Alternator Problem or Ignition Coil Problem, in 2013 Honda Dealership Maintenance Dept gave me a Inspection and said the Ignition Coil needs to be Replaced. Can someone Help me understand the difference and what Issues should I notice.
