How to fix oil pressure error?

Asked by Nick May 16, 2020 at 11:10 AM about the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am getting oil pressure errors, including the pinging alarm.  I read forums,
and replaced the sensor.  This did not fix the error.  Discovered that there is
an in-line filter before the sensor, which apparently gets clogged and must be
replaced. Is this filter even needed?  If the sensor has to be replaced, why
bother with the additional nuisance of having to fish out the filter?  For now, I
still have to replace the filter.  How easy is it to remove that filter?  It's
already pretty hard getting my hand in place to replace/install the sensor.
Thanks

On older vehicles like this problems are often in the wiring rather than the component itself. Carefully take connections apart, clean them and make sure they are tight when you put them back together. Make sure grounds generally throughout the vehicle are tight and clean. Scan it for trouble codes to make sure there isn't some other problem that's causing it to send bad signals. And, if that filter is at fault, change it, don't eliminate it. Not having it in place may send a new trouble signal to the computer or confuse it into making other changes to the fuel system that will adversely affect your truck.
