I purchased an alleged super sport 1964 Impala. However, its a super sport in the inside and screams Impala on the outside. Is that possible?

Thank you. I checked the vin. It’s reported as a 1964 Impala. The first three numbers are 418. If it was 414 it would be a 64 Super Sport. There are no welding modifications from underneath. I’m confused. I was told that in the 60’s that the owener could order a vehicle anyway he/she would like.

The vin is reported as an Impala. It has a 327 engine and Super sport everything else in the inside.

Thank you, actually I found out the vehicle was made as an Impala Super Sport (see attached) My vin # first five numbers are 41847. According to this sheet , the car is a 64 Impala =18. Super Spirt came in models (47) which was an option for the 18 Impala. The Super Sport was just that a a super Spirt vin 14- 47 mines is an 18-47 according to my vin# information received from Classic Car Industries.

According to this information. The 47 is a model number. The Impala had options of what model could be chosen. If the owner liked the Impala exterior and the Super Sport interior. They had the option to purchase it. Super confusion to me. It’s only a molding change. I choose to leave as is. Thank you all for your comments. In all it’s a beautiful vehicle.

I felt the same way you felt. I read the same thing you read. However this car has no modifications under the undercarriage that would explain converting it from an Impala to an SS. It’s still. Chevy Umpala. I’m okay with it. Found the answer I was looking for. It’s a beautiful car and runs great. Thank you

How much is it?

Your car, even according to that VIN sheet, is not a true SS. The number "47" meant that an Impala (SS or not) was a 2-door hardtop. The "14" was for V8 Super Sports, while the "18" was just for V8 Impalas. The only way your car would be a V8 SS would be if it had the correct "1447" VIN, anything else and you're out of luck.
