Shaky wheel

Asked by Macy Oct 10, 2017 at 11:08 PM about the 2015 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This has been going on for a month now, took it into
Toyota and they balanced, realigned, and rotated
tires. It shakes at the wheel during highway speeds
(65mph), also jerks when hitting bumps and goes
crazy thru gravel roads. My car was never modified
and they’re trying to tell me the only thing they can
think of is a missing hub centric ring? All I have to
say is the Toyota here in interior Alaska sucks. They
never update me on anything, I always have to call
and I get the same response, “ we’ll give you a call
in a few days” and never do.

The other Toyota dealer is about 700miles from
here. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Tell them to drive it, drive the seven hundred miles after calling first. I have heard of consumers contacting Toyota (not the dealer) to complain about issue then Toyota makes them fix it and complain to gov sites to get them to react to your needs and fix it.

Did you buy it brand new if not it may have been damaged, something may be bent, bad bushings/suspension part. sway bar links ect, loose parts.

@enginecreator Bought it brand new. I don’t feel any tugging or jerk when braking. It’s really only when I’m on the highway. But after Toyota worked on it, there are some new issues I’m having and hearing. I have an appt. next week. With the bigger issue, what do you suggest I do? I honestly don’t think they know what to do.

They need to be put in the mind set you will be getting a car off the lot of your choosing to drive until they completely fix all issues and leave no part un-turn or left damaged for you to deal with in the future, no if and's or butt's, just the way it is, not with you being emotional or loud, just be calm and state this mater factually.

Also tell them its a safety driving hazard to others and you on the roadways.

If they take too long to answer wait a minute and say that above and then wait without saying anything else, let them answer with o.k. we will fix it, just know if they can keep you talking and walking they know they can keep you walking out the door with them never fixing it until it appears they have no choice.

Also even if they state other-wise all warranted & defective parts and tech labour & shop fees are covered by Toyota not the dealership (yes upfront but not at the end). When they give you a car to drive this will also put your car at the top of the list until fixed. Its not your problem but theirs. This can all be achieved without any anger or fowl language. They want to let you put yourself out and get upset then your more likely to give in to them. Your standing there until they move in your direction then your setting there until its in process and your new off the lot car is setting out in front the showroom door waiting for you.

Remember the Safety Driving Hazard to others, this means they are not fixing or dealing with just you, means their dealing with they whole population.

first of all...if it was aligned right .....everything checked..for ever a little play..they would have found a issue

I had a shaky wheel on passenger front and ended up being the wheel bearings, this was on my 2002 Highlander.

Also quit going to dealers, have a great personal mechanic now, he is like a wizard at diagnosing problems, dealers are not train to diagnose but just replace parts.
