Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The wrench light and message popped up
about 2 weeks ago and car started shaking
really bad. We turned the car off for a few
and everything went back to normal. Then 2
days ago I was driving down freeway at
about 70mph and wrench light came back on
and speed reduced slowly to 20max and
wouldn’t go past 20 as well it was also
shaking. I turned it off for a few and again
everything was working fine. Took it in to
shop that day just to see what was causing
it. They have driven the car for 2 days and
nothing seems to be wrong with the car. They
have checked it and nothing. Any ideas?!?
The two times that it has happened is when
we press on the gas too fast all the way
down. I’m just scared for it to happen again
during me driving it in the freeway or
something.

It's going into limp mode. Which means it's detecting an issue and only letting you drive fast enough to take to a shop. Next time it happens, don't turn it off and take it to the shop. If you check for codes, it might have it in the memory even though the check engine light is not on.

That’s the bad thing, they did check for codes and none came back. It would be really hard for me to drive it to shop while doing that due to it shaking and been super slow. It literally says that its 20mph but it feels more like 5mph.

In that case, buy a cheap scanner from amazon for about $15 and you can use it with your android phone or one from your local auto parts for about $50. If it happens again, which most likely it will, you can check for codes right when it happens. Common problem is a bad throttle positioning sensor.

wrench lite came on on Sunday and car stopped. Waited and hour and it started and drove home. Monday started up and went and got oil changed and drove all over town. Today it stopped again. waited and started up ok. My mechanic is 30 miles away. Shoiuld I have it towed?

Hello, let me not jinx myself but my car has not done this for a while now. When my car did this, I would literally park on the service road, turn off my car for a minute and back on. It would work like nothing ever happened. I took my car in to the shop, nothing was found to be wrong with it. Took it in to Ford and they found nothing wrong either. They advised me to take it in right away if the same thing occurred again.
