I don't believe it's a major problem, I think your back-up battery is going bad.

Thank you, Yes I purchased the 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude, October, 2015. It is not flashing. It came on about 2 weeks ago and went off. Then yesterday came on again. So, I stopped the car turned off ignition and started car again... this time light was off. I am taking it to dealership as recommended....hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg....will my extended warranty cover this?

The same thing began happening to me about a week ago (same vehicle). Yesterday morning my battery died. I replaced my battery and the Stop/Start light has not come back on.

I'm having this same issue, 2015 Jeep Cherokee, and the dealer just told me that the warranty for the Start/Stop battery is expired. But, they will test the battery to see if it needs to be replaced for their fee which is as low as $65 or as high as $130, depending.

I did get this issue resolved. According to the dealer, the battery had a bad cell and had to be replaced. There is no second (ESS) battery, there is a sensor attached to the Negative, I believe, post of the battery and this was reading an issue with the battery causing the message and the ESS to error out. My mechanic said the battery was fine. This sensor is covered by the factory warranty which had already expired for me at 4 years so it cost me about $400 to fix.
