2015 Outback CVT Replacement

Asked by Guru512H7 Jan 20, 2018 at 08:33 PM about the 2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was told by dealer that my 2015 Outback with 44k
easy freeway miles needs a new VCT. No teens
drive this car. Makes bearing noise when in drive
and not moving. Not real loud, but I noticed it. Car
is serviced to spec by dealership.

The dealer should replace it at no cost to you due to the extended warranty Subaru had to extend to all their cars -100k or 10 years!

Phew...a bit of a gray area.... If the bearing noise starts to increase with car speed then I'd push it. You have plenty of time....

If the dealer is already on record saying it needs a new CVT they are at least half way there to a new replacement under warranty.

Yup. But SOA has been known to VERY carefully audit dealers' warranty claims, and will probably inspect the old tranny upon return...unless there are too many of them. Ha!

My experience is NOT unique...many people have CVTs with no issues.. of course you're going to hear about problems on the forum.. And, Subaru has already accepted that there's an issue with some of the cars otherwise they wouldn't extended the warranty..the person with the 2015 car and low mileage, no problem. Get your car fixed.

I just gotea used s Outback 2015 and I Feel that the shift it is not smoth at all, might this be a Transmision problem?

Maybe. Have someone with much more experience test-drive yours. Maybe someone screwed up a fluid change, so check that before tossing the CVT. If it still acts up talk to SOA.
